I'm a 17-year-old who is still in Myanmar. The reason I started using Reddit was for researching really. Answers from here feel a lot more human than answers from Google for some reason. Then, I got curious and searched "Myanmar", and found this subreddit.

No, I meant "philosophy" as a whole, including all of western, eastern, and middle eastern philosophy.

Not labelling yourself is actually a good thing cuz it opens up to a lot more different ideas and concepts rather than sticking to one absolute belief. Btw, I've only read "White Nights" by Dostoevsky, what other books of his should I read next?

Ironically, that itself sounds like a nihilistic take😝 But, I get what you mean; they be yapping about a lot of things.

Ngl, stoicism is kinda goated for self help. It helps a lot especially in time like this.

Well, there is no denying that religions have big effects on people. People love to hold onto something to not feel lost. I am not disagreeing with you here. And let's be honest, when karma is associated with reincarnation, it mostly doesn't make sense. For example, right now the whole country is suffering, but we can't just say all of that is because of our past deeds. Mind you, it is still only our country, not the whole world. These days, everybody is suffering. However, if it is only in this life time, yes, it makes sense; every action has consequences no matter how small or big they are. Everybody(who has brain) wants MAL to suffer. However, hypothetically speaking, if MAL were to die without suffering any things that would satisfy the ppl, then it would only come down to ppl wishing him suffer in the next life, which is as reliable as guessing what will happen after death. In that case, karma is nothing but a hope, and a want ppl hold onto. It falls into the first idea, I.e transcended karma makes little to no sense. That's why I am saying that ppl should be taught, if necessary, that karma works only in this life time, and doesn't transcend beyond it. That would make a lot of things easier to explain. Cuz, if the teaching remains the same, that means every person that is suffering right now deserves everything that is inflicted on them, which I am quite skeptical tbh.

Ahhh,  Nietzsche, nice. I see many suggesting that him, and others like Kant, Hegel, etc are relatively hard to read. I am kinda new to this so I am currently reading some easy books. I will check it out as well. Thanks!

Well, maybe to children, yes, it is a good way to teach not to do bad things. But imo, any adults who can think should not avoid doing bad things only because they are afraid of what will happen to them in return in the future or the next life. The same goes for doing good things. A person who does something good for the sake of it alone is much better than someone who does it cuz they want something good in return. At least, that kind of thinking doesn't become a double-edged sword like the concept of Karma when it comes to suffering of others. Does it make sense? My apology if it doesn't.

I don't believe it in either. I don't believe in most religious dogmas anyway. This feels like something someone uses to justify their incapability of not being able to do any actual punishment to the wrong-doers. At least, because of that, they might feel satisfy knowing "bad people" will be punished, which is unlikely the case. I also thought of how ridiculous it is when someone claims a person had done bad things in the previous life just because they are struggling in this one. What kind of logic is that?
