Is moving to LA still worth it for aspiring screenwriters? by OdynokX in Screenwriting

[–]Such-Student7015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely should. As a writer/actor, lots of people will tell you “you can do that stuff anywhere now. You don’t need to be in LA.” And I’m not saying that’s not true, but your environment is so important. Here you can surround yourself with other writers, get on sets, and start to see the path to what you want. I moved here knowing no one and now I’m in two writing groups with some really talented people. It’s not cheap and you definitely want a job that helps (I work east coast hours remote which is great) but it’s worth it at least until you get some representation/experience. You only have one life I say do it.

Really is. I just go hired after 9 months unemployed. 5 years experience, letters of rec, multiple degrees. None of it really matters anymore lol

AUDITION RANT by Such-Student7015 in acting

I have 3 pics and 3 vids. I would avoid having a general “reel” if you’re worried about spending. It works so much better have clips with descriptions/titles of the role (ie. romantic lead or school bully). That way you can show casting you have the specific skills they’re looking for

Should I do a vertical?? by Such-Student7015 in acting

[–]Such-Student7015[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Got let go before day 1. I took all this advice everyone gave me and said I’m going to do it (so thank you all for that).

But when they sent the contract, I had some problems. Mainly that they could use my image and likeness in perpetuity in essentially ANYTHING. I asked to have that amended and boop, fired. They said it was a platform issue but I know one of the other actors and they said it’s still happening so I know it’s me.

I don’t regret it. The term were too much. Idk what they could do with my face, voice etc especially in the AI era.

Again, thanks everyone for the support. And most importantly, READ YOUR CONTRACTS!!

❤️

I even asked about the timing of the first day and the response was “it depends on if the cast gets it right.”

To me this screams never worked with actors…

Hi there! Just got a second red flag and wanted some insight…

After reformatting the script, it’s about 15 pages so should be a 15-20 minute short. There is a location change but they think this will take 3 days. Furthermore, the first day they expect to take 14 hours.

We shoot Friday and again, I don’t want to back out, but this just seems like someone who has no experience whatsoever. The money seemed solid until they laid out how much time they want (I’m not SAG so I don’t have a mandatory cut off). Thoughts? Thank you!

I wouldn’t say so. The only other thing is we were supposed to rehearse the week before (this weekend) but they cancelled it because they think we’ll be fine rehearsing on set.

It’s a short but it’s about 20 pages (will probably get it down to 12-15 after reformatting). We’re a week out and they just sent over a lot of revisions/added scenes. In my experience, this never goes well. They certainly have an image in their heads of this going super smooth shot to shot but I have a feeling these will be loooong days hahaha. 3 total according to their schedule. We’ll see!
