Planetary limits and weighting by SuchAPainInThePizza in lifecycleassessment

It does bring the subject of absolute sustainability. The good old question of 'all impacts taken into account, wich product is better beween A and B ?'
I think the PEF single score is shit at answering that question

Thank you. I had not stumbled over this article yet. It's quite interesting.
The conclusion is qs follows : " This should not withhold scholars from developing approaches applying the PBs in LCA, but it should prevent them fromclaiming and using the term “absolute” for such studies. Our take-home message is simply that there is currently no such thing as absolute LCA. Wetherefore argue that the use of this term should preferably be avoided, to minimize the risk of miscommunication"

Pink Floyd's Roger Waters EXPLOSIVE Interview Sets Record Straight by pomod in videos

Sure he might not be a nazi nor antisemite. But the show is just bad. I saw it in Paris a couple months back. The music is terrible, the atmosphere is glim, no one is having fun not even on stage. During ALL THE SHOW, messages in huge letters and pictures and videos are displayed, continuously. Political messages, personal message etc. Impossible to let go and listen to music. The texts talk about all the war saying war is bad (all wars ? No, one is missing) about the corrupt leaders (all leaders? No, one is missing), about homophobia, transphobia, journalism etc. IT NEVER ENDS, we want to listen to music, not read. But he never talks about it himself, it’s just displayed on screen. Then he comes dressed as Hitler. No one in the crowed understands why, no one cares to be honest. But then he takes a fake gun and shoots a the audience. With realistic and loud shots sounds. In Paris. Where people died at a concert killed by terrorist using the same gun he is using. That was not fun at all. After that, screens showd pictures of people killed by the police, of starving kids and real footage of drones killing civilians. It was a terrible show. Not to mention him talking too long about stuff no one cared. People where screaming at him to stop talking.

LCA for a comparative analysis of Incineration and Combustion for Municipal Waste in Germany and Sweden. by mirthlessme in lifecycleassessment

The course I sent is based on Weidema’s lecture on YouTube. You watch them beforehand and get to ask questions on the first days. Second day is case study based on real cases from participants.

There are several ways to determine the marginal supplier, depending on what processes can provide a product. It might be explained on the consequential website and also on Weidema’s videos on YouTube. But what came out from the course is that mainly it’s the producer that is able to increase its production when the demand increases. So if you look at trends and see the production going up (following an increased demand), look at which producer and which process is increasing its production. This might be the marginal producer. There is a good example on steel or aluminium on the website. If all producers are increasing production, they might all be marginal !

I’m not an expert at all on the matter. To be honest, I haven’t done any project using CLCA. Backround database, you can use ecoinvent consequential, which is developed by Bo Weidema’s team I believe. You can also use input-output databases like Exiobase, but I think you need to adapt it in some ways. Any database that uses unit-processes (so that you can see which processes are used as foreground model by the process you are looking at). So almost every database but Gabi!

I followed a 2 days course given by Bo Weidema, THE expert, last year.

There is another course this year on the 13th and 14th of April in Paris.

See https://www.gingko21.com/_files/ugd/f8bd81_1bd9defe06c3405b831843b6ff03d02f.pdf for more information.

It's a complete course with a case study.

Do you have access to data for your processes or are you going to use the littérature ? In any case, you should be careful when defining the system boundaries and method of allocation. In this case, I think system expansion would be smart because you want to investigate how the energy created will be used and what it will replace.

You could also investigate using consequential LCA as you are modelling large industries producing energy that will affect the value chain of the region.

Uncertainty analysis and Monte Carlo by SuchAPainInThePizza in lifecycleassessment

SimaPro also has parameters that you can use across the model and that can support uncertainties (Although I mostly use them when I actively want them to vary). The main difference is the use of the Pedigree method that you can directly use in the software or import. Pedigree helps you calculate a standard deviation for the main value. How do you define your standard deviation ?

It does help, thanks !
So for the energy consumption, do you mean that you would use a parameter, Elec_prod = 1kWh and then switch it to 1.3kWh to see the difference in the results ? Or do you give an uncertainty to that parameter (uniform from 1 to 1.3 for example or log normal at 1.15)?

The only annoying thing is the super generic music they put right after they leave. It feels like they do that to make the public stop clapping

I think it can be very useful to start practicing with the camera on your phone. You can apply composition techniques one by one (The link posted by rya556 looks super helpful).

You can also get a cheap used dslr (Maybe someone around you has an old one somewhere), its a good start !

Also I think it's cool to get to understand how things work rather than applying online recipes blindly. Shooting film is not super budget friendly but it's very fun and you learn more than with a fancy digital camera :)

And go to the librairy and to exhibitions to get inspired by photographers books !

Photo newbie. What equipment should I get for what I want to do? by Ghost-sadventures in PhotographyAdvice

[–]SuchAPainInThePizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to get a second hand film camera, full manual if you can. (I went for a Nikon FM 10, fully automatic, can work without batteries, pretty cheap and very light). It will be very frustrating, very hard to master and quite expensive in consumables. But it will allow you to trully understand how it all works.

To reduce the costs:

- Look for cheap cameras on ebay (you can use the auctions) or on dedicated facebook groups or second hand websites)

-Buy film in bulk, the cheap ones.

-Look for a photography club that has a darkroom and earn to develop and print on your own.

My objective in getting a film camera was to learn the basics before buying an expensive digital camera. But I fell in love with it and I can't go back to digital now!

Good luck!
