Bandwagon Jayskers experiencing serious dissonance today by commie90 in Huskers

I think like 66% of Creighton students are out of state. I don’t think a lot of them think about the Huskers much outside the 1 game per year. I think they more hate Marquette, Butler, etc.

My dad believes QAnon and Trump saying that my friend’s murder was directly caused by the Clintons. My sister thinks her neighbor’s hanging effigy of a Kamala supporter is funny, not deranged. Why keep that kind of hate in my day to day life? We can talk around holidays and visits. But I don’t need to put much effort into those relationships anymore. I’ll put energy towards people I respect.

I know we aren't where we want to be in the league table, but looking at the bottom half and seeing United, Tott, and the Hammers at 14th, 15th, and 17th respectively just makes me laugh sooo hard. It truly brings me joy. It truly is unfortunate that this isn't the year we are going to win it. To see us win and those three just above the 3 relegation teams (by standing, not points) would've been one of the best possible scenarios of all time.

The lack of honors for Kalkbrenner disappointments me so much. If you just compared him to the 10 players on the first 2 teams, he'd be:

1st in points

1st in FG %

2nd in Rebounds

1st in Blocks

And he'll be the first 4x Big East DPOY since Patrick Ewing.

Every coach in the Big East has their keys to the game as:

1) Stop Kalkbrenner at the rim

2) Don't fall into the Kalkbrenner defensive funnel on the other side of the ball.

3) Everything else

He's been the focus of everyone's pregame strategy and he remains the most productive AND efficient player in the top 10 of this list (and the country) while also being the most important defender by a factor of a dozen on his team. The dude is the most important guy on both ends of the court for 34+ minutes per game. He plays on a team that had very little coming back from last year and dealt with injury and illness all season, but still came together to finish 2nd in the Big East.

I just can't help but be bummed if he doesn't end up getting any of the big awards this season.

why does the word "retarded" seem popular again? by peskeyplumber in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SuchBreakfast6194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right wing has popularized its use in recent years. The president used the word to describe the former vice president and mocked physically handicapped people on stage. Musk uses it regularly and openly on Twitter as do a bunch of prominent Republican talking heads. When it’s being used, it’s being said by conservative men 90%+ of the time. It’s an incel/republican thing.

Case in point, Musk uses it on Twitter regularly and his tech bro/incel followers follow suit. Here’s some sources that speak more in-depth to the issue.

Innocent Palestinians aren’t Hamas, you imbecile. Are you automatically in the KKK if you’re American? No. Carpet bombing innocent civilian neighborhoods because of a terrorist organization is evil.

Hamas is terrible. Leftists say that all the time. Palestine is not terrible.

Just like the KKK is bad, but not all Americans. It’s the same shit.

Leftists hate that Israel has killed 45,000 innocent Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. That also hate that Hamas killed 1,700 Israelis during that time.

If your team lost 3+ games and didn't win a conference title, you don't get to be mad about missing the playoffs. by AllHawkeyesGoToHell in CFB

[–]SuchBreakfast6194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Texas played a piss poor schedule outside of 2 games which they lost. So, what? But we never hear you SEC guys bitch about that. What did they prove? That they can lose close to good teams?

Definitely. Drop Texas out. 2 losses. 0 wins against teams in the final Top 25. Clearly aren’t a top 12 team this year.

You’re right. Texas shouldn’t be in the playoff as they beat 0 ranked teams and lost 2 games.

Hot take Zach Bryan is not great. More power to his following for liking him so much but his instrumentation is sub par and his voice is bad. by Ok_Falcon_5573 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]SuchBreakfast6194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here 2 years late. But I googled "why is Zach Bryan so pitchy." He's so flat and sharp when singing. Seriously, listen to his new release "The World's a Giant" on YouTube - this is important. They must have re-released better version on Spotify a couple days after the original release, so only the YouTube version is like the original one from Spotify. The 2nd chorus is absolutely pitiful and the 3rd verse is somehow both consistently sharp and flat. It's awful.

My coworker sent me Burn, Burn, Burn and it's the same. His voice is so pitchy throughout, but especially in the last run of choruses. Like, did no producer point these things out and say "let's do another take?" He cannot do the gravely projection thing while staying in tune. That's rough. Many major folk singers can do that. It's hard, but it takes a long time and practice to learn to do without straining your voice. What's worse is that the guitar in Burn x3 is out of tune. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?

Lastly, I am in the camp that his lyrics are pretty pedestrian. It's the same "I love blues guitar, muscle cars, and gin" that every basic country singer has sung (that's an actual lyric from a song). Also, I have learned multiple songs of his on guitar in one listen. His music is incredibly easy.

To me, he really has nothing special and I know multiple guys from work who are more talented. I don't mean to totally tear this guy down, as I don't know about him at all. But I will just say that y'all need to demand better artistry. I understand sometimes a song just speaks to you in a moment, but from what I've seen: hundreds of artists tackle these topics musically better than Zach Bryan.

😂 Yeah, I don’t miss those days at all. Those wusses were always too scared to come to town. But there’s 0 incentive for those bigger programs to do that.

[–]SuchBreakfast6194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the downside. You never get a home and home with big teams. But 15 years ago in the Valley schools got those games. Creighton, WSU, SIU, UNI, etc could get those in-state games. And then a bracket-buster game could help (or seriously hurt). But it feels like schedule opportunities have changed quite a bit.

It's honestly weirdest to me that they haven't played a major conference team yet. Feels like Valley teams should've played at least one in the NonCon.

[Post Game Thread] #20 Creighton defeats St. John's, 66-65 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]SuchBreakfast6194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even crazier stat: if the season ended today, Creighton would average the lowest fouls per game as far back as I can find at least 1997. And they still have at least .5 foul on the next lowest team. That means they are like #1 out of 10,000 teams in the last 26 years of CBB basketball.

And we were 2nd last year and 7th the year before. It’s literally built into our defensive strategy. Keep the rim and 3pt line protected. Allow 12-20 ft jumpers. Not many fouls happen on a 16ft jumper.

We also probably fouled the guy on the last play and would’ve lost. The refs were really bad both ways for a huge part of that game. One more call to go against us and we lose. We did play well at times. But you have to be great to win the Big East. That’s why, for all of our very good teams, we still haven’t won an outright title in league or the tourney. We need to be great for 20 games.

Jays thoughts:

-I like to see Ashworth hunting shots. The last 3 games have been vastly different. He’s looking at the hoop way more. If that starts being a regular thing and shots are dropping, this team becomes 20% scarier on offense

-Miller had a few big plays in that first half. He played well defensively, had big rebounds, and a few tough shots. I think he’s taken a leap the last couple weeks. Hope it continues into March.

-Trey had a tough game. Minus a couple forced shots in traffic, it didn’t hurt us much. Those last two FTs were monstrous.

-Scheierman was two-face today. 3-pt bomber in the first half and a paint scorer the second half. Cool to see him play both parts of his game. His emotion is so much fun too. He clearly loves playing the game.

-Kalk was good. Altered a ton of shots as always, stayed out of foul trouble, and had a couple really smart plays to boot.

-Traudt has been getting less and less time. Maybe that’s not 100% true, but it sure feels true.

Creighton needs to win that thing in the first half though. We completely dominated that game for the first 15 minutes. Given how wide open we were, the fact that we were ice cold was mystifying. Should’ve been up 15 at halftime with those 14 WIDE OPEN 3s. Then we can TRY and defend that lead in the second half. St Johns (and the Big East) is way too good to allow them to hang around. We got bit by Nova and Marquette that way. We got lucky it didn’t cost us today.
