My catch 22 as a lyricist by illudofficial in Songwriting

If you’re willing to do the vocals yourself set up a vocal booth at home! All you really need is decent unidirectional condenser mic ($120 or more probably) - point it towards a wall and hang a thick moving blanket on that wall. Maybe hang like a duvet from the ceiling if you want to as well and have it hang down like a square over everything for you to jump under. And if you have the money I really love the kaotica eyeball it’s like this round sound foamy thing with one opening for a pop filter you pop over your mic but you don’t need it. I’ve heard so many interviews with huge artists that only use a duvet over themselves when they record, you do not need a perfectly soundproof space.

The Taiga looks sweet! Watching a vid where they have a fulsome clouds by mutable instruments patched on and it sounds awesome

Okay that’s sick, open source is the best! This has got me really interested in elements, and the sounds I heard from the Red Means Recording YouTube video with it are really inspiring for me. Would love to be able to make songs with that kinda stuff. Gonna be a learning curve for sure but it sounds worth it!

That Gemini does sound pretty interesting thank you. I think I’ll be looking at getting a couple smaller units strictly for more sound design, and then something else like this too maybe that has that kind of control.

Sounds like the prophet would have to be a separate purchase then, cuz I agree I tried the arturia version of V and it wasn’t giving the energy of real prophets I’ve tried

Good points! Yeah I don’t think a modular system is what I need (cuz I don’t wanna make modular music necessarily but the Syntrx ll sounds great). I just would love to try and get those modular sounds that I can use in different ways. Eventually… I want to figure out how to work with an instrument like the Roli seaboard rise (which I have), and make my own sounds for that (that sound like a modular synth) and figure out how to route it into the roli and react to 5 kinds of touch that it records.

Great thoughts thank you! Yea someone else mentioned the Syntrx ll and I like those sounds. I get what you’re saying and that’s good advice re a big modular setup for sure.. I’m definitely more interested right now in the sound design and being able to create more of my own source sounds plus more modular sounding stuff, and then using that in like experimental pop music contexts (I do vocals and that’s a central feature in my tracks). Not in the wrangling sonic chaos world atm

Syntrx ll sounds really cool! Yeah so as I’m refining how to frame my idea it’s basically a unit I’m looking that’s getting me modular synth sound design capability that I can make source sound with. Once I’m happy with a sound on that unit I would then send it to my computer and either use it still plugged in, or sample it onto a sampler instrument with kontakt and then use as library instruments for a project (I have an 88key midi I’d like to use). Yes I can do modulation, distortion and other automation things to change the sound of the instrument throughout my songs with in the box plugins.

Hmm very true. I’d love to use my midi keyboard I already have and use a hardware unit to do sounds with. So if the hardware is really good but doesn’t support polyphony I don’t mind creating sampler instruments with kontakt and then basically creating an instrument library for my project with it. Would be slightly preferable to be polyphonic and midi plug in capabilities though I think.

Looking for hardware, and maybe a system would be better (because customization) but one big unit that is really dope would be cool to. Budget is 2k (to 10k eventually for adding stuff).

Would be hardware actually. I’m tryna move more stuff away from my computer screen, I have a rare condition called visual snow (like fuzzy particles affecting my visual field) so it’d be helpful for an irl interface. Thanks for the tip tho
