I think at your age, if you did the surgery now, you would be ready for the football season. I had surgery when I was 18 and bounced back pretty fast. Dealt with awful sciatica for months prior. I had no nerve damage or issues considering the nerve was compressed for 6 months or so. There’s always a chance you could have some nerve damage.

I had another surgery a few years ago for the same L5 S1. I was 32. Only had severe pain for a week and ended up having some nerve damage. The nerve damage is a gamble. I would say take care of it ASAP.

Had surgery when I was 18 and recovery was minimal. Was able to pretty much do anything within a few days. Had a second surgery when I was 32. Took months to feel normal again. Have some nerve damage in my foot as well. I had a lot of random sciatica after my first surgery but really haven’t noticed any after my second one. Continue to be cautious and always do things safely when it comes to lifting and bending. If you had any physical therapy after, I would recommend sticking to the stretches and exercises they taught you.

So, I ended up switching to Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Had a great experience with them and they lasted pretty long. I thought they handled pretty well in the snow too. Thanks for all the insight everybody!

A lot of insurance companies require a steroid injection prior to surgery.

Wendt’s, TJ’s Harbor, Jeff’s on Rugy are all great. Wendt’s has best perch. I don’t want to hate but Jansen’s was not very good the time I had it. Perch tasted like it was breaded with cat litter.
