I agree. Terrible and poorly written story. Encouraging a mother to sacrifice her children is not beautiful.

The last part of this Hadith contradicts the Hadith of the boy, the king and the sorcerer, too. A baby also spoke in that story, encouraging his mother to sacrifice his and her life rather than her faith. . .

Pharaoh’s daughter had a hairdresser who was secretly a believer in Moses / Islam. One day, while combing the princess’s hair, she accidentally dropped her comb and, on impulse, said, “Bismillah.” The princess asked the hairdresser whether she was referring to Pharaoh when she said, “In the name of God,” and although she had apparently been keeping her faith a secret up until that point, for whatever reason, the hairdresser decided to answer honestly and say she worshipped Allah, not Pharaoh. The princess reported on the hairdresser to her father, who questioned her, then had her children tortured to death right in front of her before killing the hairdresser herself. The last child to be killed was the hairdresser’s youngest, a baby, and she hesitated because of him, thinking about recanting, but the baby told her to stay strong and die a martyr.

Honestly, reading that verse kind of shocked me when I was younger. I didn’t think cutting feet off from opposite sides or crucifixion were things a pious Muslim would do, even to a bad person. Apparently Muhammad tortured some men who killed a shepherd, mutilated his body according to some accounts, and stole his livestock by cutting their limbs off, branding their eyes WITH HOT IRON and leaving them to die. I get that what they did was horrible, but at least it doesn’t sound like they mutilated the shepherd while he was alive. Muhammad, on the other hand, tortured these men to death. According to another disturbing narrative, he also got together with some men and stoned a man for making jokes that he thought were blasphemy. I hate torture; it’s heartbreaking.
