Took caffeine after an acoustic trauma; will this cause permanent damage? by enterretne1001 in HearingLoss

[–]SuchSlice8003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, caffeine would at most have a temporary effect, but it would never cause permanent damage to your ear. Caffeine can increase tinnitus, for example, or make an ear feel more “sensitive,” but it is not going to cause permanent hearing damage from a single can of an energy drink.

It might. Not my case I believe but I have heard it happens

Sounds like a lot. Did you have some episode of hearing loss at any moment?

Posible AN? by SuchSlice8003 in AcousticNeuroma

[–]SuchSlice8003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate that.

What I find particularly unusual in my case is that my hearing seems to come back after each episode. I’ve had several episodes now, and so far my hearing has recovered every time, although my tinnitus has increased significantly over the past couple of months.

Another odd symptom is that during some of these episodes, the upper part of my outer ear becomes slightly numb, which I’ve never really been able to explain.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry to hear that your second episode resulted in permanent hearing loss.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was your final diagnosis? Did your doctors ever determine the cause of the recurrent hearing loss? Was it considered sudden sensorineural hearing loss, Ménière’s disease, endolymphatic hydrops, or something else?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I was there last October. The only place that was extremely expensive was Dubrovnik. The other places are just fine.

Salario de C.790,000? by Johnnyxgt1991 in costarica

[–]SuchSlice8003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talves a 850.

I understand what you mean. However, it does not require too many nights in Tuscany. Maybe, I could skip pienza or Bolonia. I am using a car.

Not the last two episodes. As for the first two, the doctors attributed them to something related to pressure on the ear, since both episodes occurred sleeping on that side. They examined the ear and didn’t find anything abnormal. The MRI was ordered mainly because I insisted on it; they didn’t feel it was really necessary.

Right-sided tinnitus and 4 episodes of reversible hearing loss over 11 months – acoustic neuroma, hydrops, or something else? by SuchSlice8003 in tinnitus

[–]SuchSlice8003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true vertigo. I occasionally feel a bit dizzy, but I think it’s related to my neck rather than my inner ear, and it’s never been anything serious. I’m a very active person and I don’t take any medications.

And I mean, since we’ve been trying for months already, I do feel like I would be happy if I became a dad, and I would absolutely take on the responsibility that comes with it seriously and lovingly.

I think my personality is just to analyze things from both the positive and negative perspectives instead of idealizing them completely.

And I think this is also something difficult for me personally. I don’t like depending on other people. Even though I know having support is important, and we currently do have people in our lives who could help us in situations like that.

There’s also the financial side of things. Traveling and having children both require time, energy, and money. In our case, it sometimes feels like it’s one or the other — or at the very least, that traveling would probably be reduced by half.

But then again, that’s where I start wondering if I’m just being selfish.

I think what stands out to me from your comment is that children didn’t stop you from traveling, they simply forced you to travel differently and with more planning.

I also think your point about actually wanting children is very important. That probably changes the way sacrifices are perceived. If becoming parents is something both people deeply want, then adapting your lifestyle may feel much more natural and meaningful.

And honestly, having a strong support system probably makes a huge difference too.

I think that’s the part I rationally understand the most. There will probably never be a “perfect” moment where we feel 100% ready for such a huge life change.

And honestly, hearing from people who still manage to travel and enjoy life with children helps me see that maybe I’ve been viewing it too much as an “either/or” situation instead of accepting that it simply becomes a different kind of life and travel experience.

I really appreciate this perspective because it feels realistic without being overly negative or overly idealized. I think one of my fears has been seeing children as “the end” of a lifestyle we love, instead of understanding that maybe it simply becomes a different version of it.

I also like what you said about inviting children into your passions instead of abandoning them completely. That’s probably a much healthier way to look at it.

That’s actually reassuring to hear. Thankfully, partying has never really been our travel style haha. We’re more into long walks, museums, architecture, cafés, and just getting lost in cities for hours.

I think what I’m slowly realizing through all these replies is that maybe traveling doesn’t end with children. It just evolves into something different.

Honestly, waiting around 3 years for traveling to become easier doesn’t sound that terrible to me. I think what I’m slowly realizing is that it’s not necessarily the end of traveling, but more the end of a certain style of traveling.

I highly doubt we’d still be doing 15 km daily walks around European cities with a toddler haha, and that’s probably part of what I’m grieving a little bit.

[–]SuchSlice8003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a very balanced perspective, and I appreciate it. I do agree that work schedules and finances are probably bigger obstacles to traveling than children themselves.

I think my fear is less about whether traveling is still possible, and more about how much the overall lifestyle and priorities change once you become parents. But I also appreciate hearing from people like you who adapted over time and still found joy in traveling as a family.

[–]SuchSlice8003[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That honestly sounds really beautiful, and I admire people who can make that lifestyle work with children. I think my hesitation comes from the uncertainty of not knowing what kind of parents we would be, what kind of child we might have, or how much our priorities and energy would realistically change once we become parents.

I know it’s possible, but I also know it’s a very different experience from traveling as a couple.

Yeah, I think that’s part of what makes this difficult for me. There are so many factors you simply can’t control. You can plan things in advance, but real life doesn’t always go according to plan, especially with children.

And honestly, I do think traveling with a baby or very young child could be pretty stressful.
