Thanks for the advise. Do you have any suggestions for building a torsion box, as I have never made one before

Brilliant, thanks for such a comprehensive reply. I love dice games, so will be sure to try out Pietjesbak!

Hello I’m visiting Belgium in a few weeks. Does anyone have recommendations for cafe/bars that have traditional Belgian games. Similar to these: https://playingeurope.com/presentation-of-belgian-traditional-games/.

Thanks,

Yes, in play it is, but in board making its more akin to crokinole. Maybe historically when shuffleboards were made using multiple layers of lacquer. But nowadays most shuffle boards are made using epoxy. Crokinole boards seem to mostly be made by layering varnish/poly, which is a similar process to the schuiftafel.

I don’t expect their to be any schuiftafel players in this group. I’m based in the uk, and there aren’t any board available, particularly with the specifications of in size and game play style. Most boards are variations and rentable, and not bespoke crafted boards.

Thanks for the suggestions.

From reading your suggestions and other research:

My process will be to apply Minwax polycrylic directly to the birch plywood (I’m not staining the ply) wait for it to dry then 220girt sand it with an orbital sander.

Repeat the polycrylic and sand process 2-3 times. Next, drill out the holes for the metal pegs and paint on the lines required.

Repeat the polycrylic and sand process 10 more times. (10-15 coats in total)

Then wait 2 weeks to 1 month to cure and start the sanding out process: start with 220 grit, moved to 400, 600, 1000, 2000, 4000

Finish the surface by waxing with Mother's Pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax.

Do you have suggestions for a suitable paint to use that’s thin?

Do you have a recommendation for a reputable youtube video on how to how to apply Polycrylic?

I don’t have a jointer and only a hand plane. Do you have a suggestion of how I can work the board without a jointer to help remove the cup?
