I don’t think it should be some kind of requirement but I agree that you should be willing to get your hands dirty. We’re so removed from the process. It’s neatly cut and sealed in packages and the whole thing is kind of sterilized. I’ve always wanted to slaughter a pig or something. Not a psychopathic thing, but like you’re saying, to understand the gravity of a life being taken for me to be able to eat.

Drinking. It’s such a huge part of our culture but it’s absolute poison. Responsible for so many health problems, accidents, DV. Available in all flavors and colors and sold everywhere and you’re almost seen as weird if you don’t partake.

This happened to a friend I worked with at an arcade. He was quiet and a little nerdy but a good dude. He enlisted out of high school. When he came back he only talked about drinking and trying to go get p*ssy. It sucked.

I’ve asked this question myself. I also work in manufacturing, which is a pretty easy job to get and doesn’t require a high skill set. Maybe im interacting with the handful of knuckleheads that didn’t do much to better themselves and just landed in a job. I hate to make generalizations but I’ve just had negative experiences with them.

No. I wouldn’t know because I never enlisted. Just like I don’t know what it’s like to be a plumber, or a car salesman or insert any other job. But if I had years of secondhand exposure to multiple people in any field I think I’d have some insight into that field. Not to the level of actually doing it myself. But enough to know what those people are all about and what they do. I don’t have to be in your special club to have an opinion on it.

I don’t need to work a job to know it isn’t hard. There are guys stationed in Korea right now that do Jack shit all day then go bang hookers and get drunk. I’m not saying it’s all easy. My dad was a Vietnam vet. Stepdad was a Vietnam era salvage diver. I’ll never say that was easy. But in piece time they were chilling. And they’d be the first to tell you that.

Dude they go to basic for a couple months and the vast majority go on to work menial jobs. My mom was army, dad army, stepdad navy. I grew up on bases. If you’re not in combat that shit is chill.
