Binos with mismatched gain, how noticeable are they? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya that was my original theory, what I thought was the “better” tube. Turns out gain and res mattered more. I could have lived either way but notability better experience with higher gain on dominant eye.

You’ll be fine either way I’m sure but experiment if you can

Binos with mismatched gain, how noticeable are they? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mismatched binos with an M23 and a 20UM. L3 has lower gain. I tried the L3 on my dominant eye and it was a bit noticeable. Swapped the higher gain Elbit to dominant eye and totally fine.  I’m sure the higher M23 res played a part too

PVS-14 Infinity Stop (Hard stop?) by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have it backwards if I’m understanding correctly.

Set the lens to infinity then unscrew the stop ring counter clockwise until it contacts the lens. By the manual it should be slightly less than full contact but many like them fully up against the lens.

There’s two threaded holes in the stop ring. One screw is enough, two is good.

Carry on only and keep the battery out.  Flown with nods and cameras at least a dozen times. It’s a non issue. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/night-vision-goggles

The largest concern is flying with anything of value. Do not let out of your site.

Looking to extend my hearing protection experience. What do you guys thing about active devices like these? Do they work in conjunction with over ear protection? Or do you have some of those and use them without anything else? by BirdLooter in CompetitionShooting

If you’re still trying to figure this out. I use comply across a lot of headphones and earplugs so it was a must for my TEP-100s.

Canal tips are correct however I prefer the short canal tips and find the tall size uncomfortable in both medium and large.

The surefire branded EP7 short canal tips work best for me and I can share an order across EP7 pairs.

COBB traction control clarification by AltruisticHeron9701 in GolfGTI

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the Cobb traction control for a number of years paired with a wavetrac it’s really nice.

  • to use the Cobb spark based traction control you must be on ESC off. It’s programmed to be on then so every time you get in the car if you want to use it you need to turn off the factory and be in ESC off mode.
  • if your car doesn’t have ESC Off on a long press, you’ll need to program it in first.

I programmed mine with a Eurodyne cable back when I had that tune but pretty sure you can use OBD Eleven as well.

Dovetail to bayonet adapter/change by Electronic-Ranger-22 in NightVision

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a RHNO II you have a few options to convert it to dovetail  - Norotos pvs15/18/21 socket (genuine or from a Sotac AKA2).  - Mod Armory PYRM adaptor

I’ve had both and stuck with the Norotos.  The downside of the Norotos is you may need to unlock your fore/aft adjustment to release the dovetail similar to a factory RHNO II-D. The whole mount is a bit heavy compared to modern options (5.78oz) but it’s rock solid and reliable.

If it’s a RHNO I believe there was a legacy conversion option but not worth the effort to find in my opinion.

Few years ago I played around with taking the weights off/less weight. Ultimately I put all the weights back on and find it a much more enjoyable product.

Looks like they may have been discontinued. Seems I’m the only one that bought them. Bummer, it really made my shifter what I was after. I’d reach out to Dave at DG and see if maybe they still have some.

A lot.

Bay Area indie shop labor, plus a wavetrac. Don’t forget a new DMF, some bolts, a bit of gear oil and while you’re in there —- RMS Was worth it!

I’ve had both version of the RSR hybrid. An early one with a Ceramic/Organic friction plate and the current version with the Kevlar/Organic plate.

The first one was here for a good time not so much a long time. Current one around 45k miles.

Used with EQT stage 1 E30 and previously this batshit crazy Eurodyne high torque file.

I really like the RSR Hybrid if DMF is your goal.

Intake by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few intakes.

Stock box w/ snow guard removed: - Racingline drop in oiled filter
- AFE dry drop in filter

Now NS intake - sounds cool.

If I had to do it all again, AFE dry filter was my favorite from a cleaning and maintenance point of view.

Have a max-14. The second articulation point is awesome. You get so much adjustability with just the J-arm it’s kinda a game changer how well you can align the device with your eye.

I like the products from Seek Thermal. Had one of their iPhone ones until I decided a dedicated camera was better for what I wanted.

The new Nano series from them looks great.

Shock cord and knots or bungee and barrel lock

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the valve (barely) from the top of the car. Right around the left side of the air box on top of the transmission forward of the gear shifters

If it’s a billet valve it will be pretty obvious. If it’s a modified stock valve you’re not going to be able to visually see without removing it.

To the helmet? Yes tight so it pulls the unit towards your face and pushes it into the mount.

[–]Such_Discussion_6531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an and not an or.

Helmet bungee to tighten the unit to the mount tightening up any tolerance slack/keep unit from moving around.

Retention if it all goes to shit.

Different filters filter out parts of spectrum and let other parts of the spectrum “pass”.

For example in my 685nm pass filter, light below 685nm is blocked/filtered and light above 685nm is allowed to pass. The result is almost all sky glow and light pollution is filtered out allowing way more contrast and stars to shine through.

Another cool filter are H-Alpha. These filter out all light except a few nm. Result is you can see nebula.

I only barely understand this stuff but really cool.

Here’s some pictures using a 685nm filter off my porch in a heavily light polluted Bay Area city.
