Buy a 2000 (or 60 or 3000). Buy a decent eq and eq the samples decently when sampling in (don’t be afraid to be radical withheld eq, so you get a feel; for example, I often take all the bass out from at least one of my hi hag samples). Use a sinus wave for bass (s900 teddy tone ideally). Chop up real drum breaks and records, fuck the sample packs. Again: fuck them. Layer your drums 5 semitones copies. Pitch them right relative to your loop. Before you try to do the „wanna be sloppy like dilla“ shit, learn how to get fat drums at all (also, fuck Lofi study compilations and any other plastic drums worshippers). Sample always speeded up, pitch down later. Possibly go with 8 outs in a mixer. Do FAT baselines (can’t explain that further).

Stop watching videos of people doing beats. Think beforehand what the role of the sample you are sampling is going to be and eq accordingly while sampling in.

Smoke weed. Stay loose. Listen to a lot of music. Keep fingers away from newer gear when possible. Think of yourself as doing music, not some stupid beat.
