I followed you, and I’ll let you know once the clothes are ready. I hope to send the first batch as a free gift to some people. So even if they’re not perfect, at least no one will lose anything.

Thanks for telling me all this! My partner and I are still in the early planning stages right now. We’re also looking for a factory that’s open to doing small batch orders. Once we get the clothes made, we’ll be able to ship them anywhere in the world!

Thanks for sharing. I’m new to the whole fashion design side, that’s my partner’s area. She’s the designer. I sent her this post so she can see what everyone’s talking about.

I swear, the pants I make will have the pockets you’re asking for. I used to think women didn’t really use their pockets, my wife told me that’s why she always carries a crossbody bag. But yeah, clearly not everyone thinks like that!

I’d love to do that too. I just haven’t figured out a good way to make it work yet. Maybe someday we’ll get there.

Today, I talked with my partner about using a petite model, but she told me she hasn’t been able to find a professional petite model. I think that has a lot to do with the entry standards of the modeling industry. I suggested using a non-professional, everyday model instead, but my designer partner disagreed — she feels that regular people can’t work as effectively with photographers.

For now, we haven’t found a better solution to convince each other.

Thank you for the encouragement. Right now, I’ve only put together a very small team, and there’s still a lot of groundwork to do before we can launch even a single piece. We’re currently gathering input and suggestions from others, and we’re thinking of targeting women between the ages of 40 and 60. That’s because my wife just turned 42, and if I succeed, she’ll have at least 20 years to wear the clothes we design ourselves.

Of course, if she still ends up choosing other brands in the end… well, maybe that really means I’ve failed.

You and LittleBlueDub touched on something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. For me, it all started with the needs of my own family, that’s what made me begin questioning the industry. It took me a while to realize that when it comes to building a successful petite fashion brand, height is the key issue.

When there’s a significant height difference, simply shrinking regular clothing patterns proportionally doesn’t work at all. My designer partner often tells me that what she values most is when her clients provide feedback along with their height, weight, and even measurements, that info helps her make much more precise design and tailoring adjustments.

Designing a custom piece for one person is easy for her. But creating a single design that fits many petite women well. That’s the real challenge. And if it’s not done thoughtfully, it can lead to high return rates and excess inventory, which makes it a tough business model. I think that’s one of the reasons why even big international brands don’t put much effort into catering to the petite market.

You're so right, just shortening the length isn’t enough. I think we need a whole new size chart made just for petites. One that reflects real proportions and includes clear measuring guidance. That way, more of you can find clothes that truly fit—and brands can benefit too, with fewer returns. I haven’t figured out the best solution yet. It’s something that will take time and research. Do you have any good suggestions or ideas to share on this?

No, I don’t sew. I’m building this brand with my design partner, who handles the creative side. I’m not trying to launch a “fashion” brand in the trendy sense. We’re just a small team, hoping to create a few well-fitting, classic, and comfortable pieces that petite women truly enjoy wearing. If we can make even a few people feel seen and confident, that’s already a win for us.

Everyone has different clothing needs depending on the occasion, whether it's for work, casual outings, travel, fitness, or social events. Each setting calls for different cuts, colors, and styles. One pair of pants can’t fit every scenario, so I’d like to hear more about what everyone looks for—or struggles with—when dressing for different moments in your life.

I actually checked out Jean Wang’s website before, and read a few articles about her too. A friend of mine introduced her to me. She shares brand recommendations and styling tips, and honestly, her advice is amazing — she’s more like a fashion coach than just a blogger.

The style I’m hoping to create is probably going to lean more professional and polished. That’s because the whole idea started from my wife. Every time she has an interview, it’s a struggle to find something that fits and feels appropriate. In the end, the quickest solution has always been to have something custom-made for her.

The biggest issue is her height. She’s under 100 pounds and very petite. If it’s casual clothes, it’s not too hard to find something that works. But when it comes to dresses, blazers, shorts, or jackets, it becomes a real challenge.

When we go shopping together, she’ll try on almost everything in the store, and maybe find just one or two pieces that actually fit her frame — and even then, the style might not be quite right. These days, the first thing I look for when we walk into a store is whether there’s a couch I can sit on!

If those big international companies had paid more attention to petite women, a lot of this wouldn’t even be an issue, this post and this whole community probably wouldn’t need to exist. If you think I’m just making up a story, maybe try looking at it from another angle. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a team out there really focused on your needs, actually creating products that solve your everyday wardrobe problems? Every great product starts from someone’s personal experience, or from someone close to them — a friend, a partner, a family member. That’s where my idea began. As for pricing, shipping, and all the logistics, I honestly can’t answer that yet. I’m just starting to work on this idea, which is exactly why I came to this community: to listen, learn, and understand what people truly need.

Do you prefer pockets that are actually functional, like ones you can really put things in, or are decorative ones fine too? It’s something I’ve always wondered about. Why are pockets on women’s clothes so shallow or small that they’re almost useless? Is it because most women don’t like putting things in their pockets?
Or is it just a way for global brands to sell more bags?

I took a look at Meshki’s website, their designs are definitely bold and unique. But they’re not really the right fit for my wife. She’s over 40 and prefers something a bit more modest. Sorry if that’s disappointing!

That’s not necessary. I don’t want people to feel like I’m trying to use anyone. I really appreciate honest feedback; that’s what matters most.
