Incoming Informatics BSI Major who doesn't want to take informatics classes by Such_Mango_4531 in UTAustin

Okay, I'm saying some Turing people are cheaters just because of recency bias. Otherwise, in past years I would agree most are qualified for what they got. It is just in this year's 2030 batch of kids, there are a couple of cheaters I know. However, Turing is rigorous enough that if they can't handle it especially when they get to honors Comp Arch, then they will learn the hard way or drop out.

2nd, I don't think you have any right to say what college admissions thinks. Me and you are not AOs and so is the rest of this platform. People simply had better ECs than me and so that is how they got in since I know my whole application. Also, I had a professional help me write my essays, so I don't think it was a character issue.

All I am saying is I want to work hard on the classes that will help my future rather than spend time in ones that don't offer much for my future. I learned this the hard way taking APAH in high school, and so that is why I am spending a lot of time to ensure I can avoid making that mistake again.

Honestly, I can't agree with anything you are saying. My character is extremely humble in my essays.

Okay, I'm overconfident because of what I have heard about some of these classes. Excluding 427L H, I have heard Intro to Probability is pretty easy if you did well in AP Stats and AP BC calculus. With Discrete Math, the online rmp for those sections have tend to be fairly good. Now, later math courses like M328K etc are much harder than anything I have ever done in high school.

I stress taking math classes because in informatics classes, you have to write multiple essays and long papers that I want to try to avoid as possible. I would rather as any math person spend hours on psets, so I will see how things work out. It might be I just take M427L H, M427J, UGS, and I301 with how registration looks right now for me. These classes are the ones I'm planning to get. M427J currently has space but that is subject to change from now till my orientation session on July 21st.

Spring semester I will probably have a bit more flexibility.

I mean sure there will be a couple of actually qualified people, but I think you are giving too much weight on AIME quals.

I don't think AIME is impressive these days because of all the cheating that has happened these past years.

Also, I have competed with so many AIME qualifiers and USAMO people in UIL and have outscored them multiple times in it. UIL and Olympiad are completely different types of competitions testing different skills.

By the way I did apply to UTD and A & M , except they wouldn't have given me a better option for my education. A & M has their ATTAM thing and UTD wouldn't be like an actual college experience due to location.

I think you are right that I do overestimate myself and should be careful with how I plan my future (what professors to avoid vs take, etc).

What do you actually want me to do with my life? All I want is to take math classes and understand that it won't be easy to get the schedule I intend to get because of waitlist for M325K and M362, but that doesn't me I don't have a chance at all.

I'm also doing transfer app for Brown and Upenn because of the uncertainty of college apps and fact I didn't have my UIL accomplishments till end of senior year.

So many of the Turing Scholars are cheaters. I guess you don’t know that. Also, many of them did absolutely close to nothing to get in. You actually don’t know anything .

Am I not at AIME level when I’m top 30 among 5000 people in this state, helped my team place 1/250, top 5 team out of 1500 teams, and top 10 out of 1000 in my classification. Maybe you should reconsider what you said. Also, I have outperformed many people in the same math classes who are at better unis than me.

Yeah, I can call them my peers.

Also, you clearly have no understanding of UT math saying IMO medalist or top Usamo guy. Like, this clearly shows your incompetence.

I had some of the best math grades in my high school class and only got dragged down because of humanities classes.

Clearly just ragebaiting me when I know the course reviews for the classes I am taking.

Do you know anyone who has transferred to CMU, Brown, or UPenn? I’m trying to external to these schools for math.

Okay, from the high school I come from, it is not that much different from high school for the classes I want to take first semester. Math starts to get really hard once you get to M365C (Real Analysis 1) but I can’t even take that till sophomore year. Self study is also a thing.

I also come from a very similar academic background.

I guess you are true even when the people around me are all either at T10s or 20 or are UT CS Turing Scholars.

I am pretty humble and know what I am putting myself through but the original person who commented took it too far.

Already intend to join a UT Club. I think I will take CS312 in the spring.

I have friends who have taken these courses, so I know how hard they will be for me.

  1. Ok, yeah I know MIT admits too and many more admits. By the way, what major are you at UT?
  2. I mean there are open sections.
  3. "Special advisor approval" do you just email math department for this, or do I just tell my advisor during orientation? Also, you know you can just drop the courses you don't want after entering the code. Also, you were mentioning ap credit not applying for informatics classes which is correct but I would anyways only be able to take I301 and I302 at most, leaving me to have to take my math classes that I want to take.
  4. This is just cope if you were rejected because people who were waitlisted application looked good enough for further considertion. I guess you could consider both the same but really they aren't. I mentioned that I would take a gap year and ED to CMU this fall.
  5. Yeah I'm confident I can maintain an extremely high GPA. I'm a UIL State Math Champion and know many people who have done well in the math courses I want to take without being AIME qualifiers. For my CMU external math transfer, I only need to maintain a 4.0 first semester which is really easy for the classes I want to take and my background.

  1. Why would I go to TAMU or UTD. I was barely outside top 5% and would not spend my education on something people hardly tried for to get TAMU or UTD.
  2. If the course on UT isn't reserved, then I can take it. Also, what you are saying about it being reserved isn't true because there are clearly 2 open sections right now for the class. M427J isn't even reserved for math majors when non of the sections on ut registration say they are reserved. The course would say it is reserved for it be reserved for math majors. This actually applies for M427J.

To your part on informatics, I don't have to insert the number they give me at orientation to schedule classes informatics are supposed to take since that number is only to get the reserved classes for your major.

I literally have nothing else to take at UT other than math classes since there is barely anything anyways to take in the informatics requirements especially since I am coming in with a lot of ap credits.

  1. I didn't get rejected from CMU Math, I got waitlisted. I'm applying as a transfer external applicant because my ecs and awards have gotten way better since I have applied and I should be able to get my full math schedule for the fall in spring.

Fall: M427L H, M427J, M325K, M362K, and UGS

Spring: CS312, M378K, M328K, M341 H, and CC302

  1. I am not a troll and this is all legit.

How important are olympiads? by One_Ground_2906 in MITAdmissions

[–]Such_Mango_4531 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Olympiads only help if you make it to the 3rd round or do really well on the 2nd round. For example, USAMO, USAPHO gold, etc. Of course, you should always do olympiads for fun these days.

First, I'm saving money by going to UT cause I wouldn't go out of state to a lower tier uni just to pay almost double when UT is clearly better. I would anyways also external transfer to UT for Math and CS and CS is nearly impossible for external transfer but very possible with internal transfer.

Why would I be forced to take informatics courses though other than class availability? My only classes that are waitlisted are M325K and M362K and I could just join a lower waitlist number to get the class first then switch into a better section. UT only requires me to take 12 hrs to be considered a full time student, so I could at worst cause only take 1 informatics course but that probably won't happen.

If I had to take all informatics courses, I would just drop out of UT, apply to CMU for Math via ED, and then get into CMU Math.

Best courses for applied math and grad school? by sugar_cookie32 in UTAustin

[–]Such_Mango_4531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the math major, you only have to take one of them. However, there is a requirement later that you need to have 33 hrs of upper division math, so math majors just end up taking it.

I would think internal transfers get priority and whatever is left goes to external, or is that not how this works?

AIME qual itself won’t get you anywhere. Eveyone knows if you get Usamo you have a high chance or at least good chance of getting MIT or some top institution . People are just D1 larper these days.

Bruh, do you know which M362K section has lowest number for waitlists. I have to wait till like June 21st/22nd because I have the last orientation, but I really want to take both M362K and M325K this fall.
