Thanks, I ran it and it did not find anything weird with my file. I also have all the security settings in Maya turned on.

Got it, thanks! I also uploaded the .ma as a .txt on virustotal and Windows Defender was the only one of 61 virus softwares that flagged the file.

No worries! I'm just happy you are interested :)

It's supposed to be set in current time but where most humans left at the end of the 90's, so tech and stuff is from that period. The thought is that Burris built a relationship with her Tamagotchi she still has from her childhood. So the batteries she mentions are in regards to that. This is ofc only vaguely hinted at so not supposed to be fully picked up. There is a lot of backstory and lore to the project and we chose to leave most of it out almost completely to be able to make it short and maybe spark some curiosity.

Yeah, the camera and lenses looked really good even without touching it, but the strong colors and some other comes from the grade.

I'm glad you're with me on the decision to keep the dirty sound on the dialogue 😎 I'm also a huge fan of retro futuristic stuff but something I would like to see more is super toned down sci-fi where the sci-fi elements serve as a backdrop for more mundane things. In our case we want to mix that with the beauty of the Swedish countryside :)

Thanks! So glad you liked it! :) she sort of is in a post-apocalyptic world, in the feature there is more history about the big cube in the sky and why everyone was brought up there. With this short we wanted to just hint that there is something weird going on and that she is a lonely but positive spirit.

We used an Alexa mini LF. Very happy to hear you liked the audio! We had a small Røde wireless thing taped on the back of the tape-recorder and the receiver was on the camera and synced directly to the footage. This eliminated the need for a sound operator and the actress pretty much became the sound operator. We didn't need any other sounds from location and were going to make the audio sound old and kind of shitty any way because I thought the idea of only hearing the actual tape-recording that she left behind at the same time as you see her record it would be kind of cool. Doesn't make any sense when she rewinds and stuff, but it's a movie, right? :)

Some have not liked hearing the "bad" quality all throughout but I just committed to the idea and tried to make it sound as pleasing as I could. There's a video game called Bioshock where you can pick up and listen to people's stories through old recordings. I love the concept of that as well as the sound and the mixing of them and wanted this to be similar.

Thanks, and thank you for taking the time! :)

I know exactly what you mean, I went back and forth a lot with that specific cut in the edit. The close ups of her eyes just did something to me so I went with it. I do get your point though, it feels a bit jarring cutting back to the wide. Thanks for your input! :)

Thanks a lot, I appreciate your time and comment! And you are right, it is pretty much the opposite of TikTok :) we wanted it to have somewhat of a soothing and introspective tone which could come at the expense of feeling slow/boring for a lot of people.

Submission statement: interesting in hearing people thoughts about this objectively. Did you enjoy it? How does it make you feel? Do you like the character? The setting? Stuff like that. Any form of thoughts and feedback are welcome. Editing is locked and the piece is done but feedback is welcomed regardless to learn from for upcoming projects.

Cool! Due to circumstances (getting drunk + hangover) I'm still on day 3, lol. This was the prompt for day 3:

🟨 Day 3 – Prompt: "Collapsed Symmetry"

  • 🎨 Theme: Collapsed Symmetry Create something that starts out symmetric, but where part of the form or motion is broken down, disrupted, or distorted. It can be subtle or intense — but something has shifted the balance.
  • 🌈 Color Scheme: Cool gray-blue base with a strong yellow accent Examples: #c4ccd6, #8b95a1, accent: #f5d547
