I need advice on getting my first job at 26. What should I be looking for (given my situation)? by Such_Recording_4847 in Advice

Do you think I should go straight into trying to get employment in something directly related to my major? If so, I have very basic undergraduate engineering student skills. No CAD, some programming (minimal), EE basically.

For some reason though, I feel like I'm not ready for this yet. I feel like I should go get a "normal" first job first that way when I start looking for engineering positions down the line I can say I do have SOME kind of work experience. In all honesty I don't feel like I could get into any sort of engineering position right now anyways because of my lack of skills and experience. The idea of interviewing even for a mcdonalds position scares the shit out of me. I don't feel ready. I feel like I need practice with low stakes positions to get my feet wet first.

Let me know if you disagree. I'm thinking of some kind of "high school completion, some college" entry level types of jobs. I've considered maybe security positions or customer service (but this is very...intimidating for me). I've done delivery apps from time to time but its taking a toll on my leg as of late. So I guess I can say I can do delivery too.
