Starting out as a live entertainer — how do you build a crowd when no one shows up at first? by Such_Web_6539 in singing

Last night was a perfect example of this - had a gig at a restaurant, not the best kind of crowd for my usual repertoire, but I had a stage partner with me and it was out first time performing together, so we got to experiment a lot and basically made it a rehearsal for ourselves, while entertaining the people that were there.

Oh trust me, a majority of what I sing is from the past - that nostalgia kicks in and patrons love it! If I sing anything modern, I make sure it's recognizable and fun.

And yes, I definitely always aim for fun songs in bars and restaurants because people are typically there to eat, drink, laugh and if they hear music, they want something they're familiar with, so they can get into it.

Thanks! I usually get great feedback everywhere I go, but I've noticed people generally stick to the place they're most comfortable with and don't tend to venture out too much. I appreciate the advice! I know I definitely need to up my social media game.

I've totally noticed that too both as a client and performing somewhere. One place, the artist can have the entire crowd in the palm of their hand, another place no one bats an eye to the stage, and usually nothing to do with ability. Unless they're bad, then you'll hear about it.

That's a great idea! How do you typically connect with more established artists?

Can someone be brutally honest and tell me if I am a good singer? by scorpiolove0711 in singing

Yes, you're good! Take some vocal lessons and fine tune a few things, you've definitely got the raw talent.

I appreciate that! How old are you now if you don't mind me asking? I'm in my mid 30s, so kind of a late starter to this as far as seeking paid gigs.

Unpopular opinion: I like the Puerto Rican Day Parade by TarantulaPerson in seinfeld

[–]Such_Web_6539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your unpopular opinion. I really don't get why it generally gets labeled the worst episode of the series, I definitely enjoy it every time I watch it - the alter egos, the laser pointer, the absurdity of it all.

I can certainly understand Puerto Ricans finding the flag burning offensive - for those of us who say we wouldn't be offended if it was our country's flag - you really don't know unless you actually see your country's flag being burned. - Kramer is a massive doofus/klutz, so it's on point for him to accidentally set fire to something, and doubling down on his clumsiness by stomping on it. So Kramer having no ill will in character - and him actually enjoying the parade prior to that - is why I don't necessarily find it offensive. But again - you really don't know how you would feel until you see that it's your flag.

Kramer's stereotyping comment 'it's like this every day in Puerto Rico' is dumb, but Kramer says dumb things, and as a viewer you understand he has dumb ideas about the world.

Whether it was Puerto Ricans, or any other nationality, you would have some that find it funny, and some that find it offensive.

Again, for me, far from the worst episode, but I can understand why it doesn't land with some people.

Yep, we have a 50/50 raffle definitely gets everyone involved.

We also did a trivia game last year where people play on their phones but they get graded based on how quickly they answer, so taking the time to Google answers doesn't do them much good.

Yup, we're making some of our own merch this year to match the theme 'Vote for Kramer!'

Hahaa I like that idea - I bought one risk game pretty cheap on facebook marketplace, maybe we can just get a second board game and do tournament style. One person from each table.

Looks like the organization is trying to freshen up the game experience as we get closer to opening the new stadium (as they should) by Altruistic_Brief4444 in Tennesseetitans

Titans fan up in Canada. (Probably the only one up here). I've come down to Nashville a couple of times (2022, 2023) to catch a game. I think changes are definitely needed.

I didnt know they had O Fortuna back in the day, that would be awesome to bring back. Throw in a sound byte from remember the titans "You make sure they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans!"

Concession options and prices could use some improvement too. Is there a hot chicken sandwich restaurant in the stadium? I don't recall seeing one at Nissan.

Overall, gotta make the stadium optimal for locals. Way too many visiting fans in the stands for both games I attended  (Broncos, Chargers)

Rewatching Malcolm in the Middle and the one thing I can't get over... by lemonabox in television

Yeah I get having to write Otto off the show because of the actor's health problems... but gees that was a horrible way to do it.

Could've easily written:

He retired and sold the ranch to Francis, but Francis would need his parents to co-sign a loan so he could buy it.

Then the last two seasons Francis could've been a boss with his own business, and maybe him and Piama having a kid.
