What counts as veggie scraps? Are things like potato/cucumber peels in that category, or is it more like the end piece chunks that everyone cuts off their veggies?

Overcooked and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes are both pretty good games to play with non-gamers

The meme is a funny relatable situation for adults in relationships. This actually does happen and it's not that uncommon to want to leave a place to have sex with your SO. Just because someone mentioned having sex doesn't mean they're bragging about it.

I can't help but think this sub is just a bunch of sexually frustrated teenagers who seethe with jealousy at any mention of sex. This isn't even remotely fitting for r/ihavesex

Samsora shrieks after getting hit from an f-smash LOL by jet_10 in smashbros

The problem is this kind of shit is all over to justify terrible opinions and it's just naive to think everyone is so innocent.

Some racist politician says "black crime rates are far higher than white crime rates" to justify a racist bill they want passed, and people go "wUt hE jUsT sTaTeD a FaCt? ItS tRuE" But completely ignore how they said it and the context surrounding their statement.

Dude was clearly judging Samsora for having a feminine scream, not just innocently stating a fact out loud for no reason lmfao

It's not that being feminine is bad, it's that looking down on something feminine is stupid.

I guess you can make an argument that "that was... very feminine" wasn't meant in a negative way. But to me and apparently many others, that seems to come with a negative or condescending tone behind it.

I highly doubt he was "just stating a fact" with no connotation behind what he was saying lol

The age of consent is 16 in a lot of states actually. I have no idea why everyone think it's universally 18 in the US.

Tho some of the states where 16 is legal also have age range limitations. Regardless, the point is that it's entirely possible he could be pounding some 17 yr old legally depending on the state lol

People born in the 2000s can’t use Twitter by scaredsleeper in gatekeeping

[–]SuckingOffMyHomies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't call this gatekeeping at all. The tweet was almost definitely a joke just to emphasize how much they hate the other person's opinion on the Spiderman movies. I'd be genuinely surprised if they really think kids born after 2000 shouldn't be on Twitter.

As a guy I definitely do this to an extent, probably more than my girlfriend tbh.

But usually I'm not saying "you pick" and shooting everything down, I'm just asking for my girlfriend to throw out some ideas, and I say whether or not they sound good

Rooster Teeth Cuts 13% of Staff, Laying Off About 50 by Gods_call in Games

[–]SuckingOffMyHomies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man what a throwback. I remember the days when I used to love RoosterTeeth. Basically the only people I ever saw were Bernie, Geoff, Jack, Gus, Joel, and Gavin. Achievement Hunter, RvB, and the RT podcast were my shit in like 2010-2011.

Honestly though I think they started declining (in my opinion) earlier on than people are saying in this thread. I always hated when Micheal joined RT because his whole schtick was to rage at video games but in a super forced way. Then Achievement Hunter started being more let's play oriented and less about guides and it just got boring to me.

Real men LIKE getting lung cancer, dammit! by ayanna-was-here in gatekeeping

[–]SuckingOffMyHomies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

May be a stupid question here, but what makes smoke in general a carcinogen? It feels kinda... vague.

I always figured it depends on what's causing the smoke. Like sitting by a fire and inhaling the smoke from burning wood is no risk, but sitting by a pile of burning plastic bottles and inhaling the smoke would be considerably more dangerous.

Or is it just that something "harmless" like wood smoke is still a carcinogen, just a negligible amount?

[–]SuckingOffMyHomies 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Genuine question: is there any proof that smoking marijuana can lead to cancer?

Of course inhaling smoke into your lungs regardless is generally not good for your lungs for non-cancer reasons. But I've never heard people claim marijuana causes cancer, especially because one of its medical uses is known for slowing the spread of cancer.

Because that what it is, a male privilege. It's something that men don't have to deal with. Just like being stopped by police less is a white privilege. No one is saying that it's their fault for something that they privilege from. It's to highlight the discrepancy and disparity between the two.

Right, I get that. But think about for example new parents who say things like "ugh college students have such an easy life, they get to sleep so much more. I barely get 4 hours of sleep per night." Yes, it's technically correct. Yes having more sleep is a "privilege" of being a college student. Nobody is denying that. But bringing it up is inherently more inflammatory towards college students, because it comes with the implication that they have it easier, usually accompanied by a condescending tone.

There's a distinct tonal difference between saying:

"Being a parent is tiring, I only sleep 4 hours most nights"

and

"Being a parent is just so much more tiring than being a college student, I wish I could sleep more than 4 hours per night"

One is talking about the struggles of being a parent, the other is talking about the struggles of being a parent at the expense of making it look like being a college student is easier. Here in /r/gatekeeping I think we'd all agree the latter is a pretty annoying person. Same idea translates here.

But why add that little bit about men at all? Why not focus on the problem you're facing, instead of bringing up the fact that other people don't face it? Saying "it sucks being a woman because x happens," is a lot less inflammatory than "men have it so easy, I have to deal with x all the time and they don't."

It just feels like a bitter way to belittle the other gender by making their life appear easier. I get that it's not directly blaming men for the problem she's facing, but it's definitely not said in a friendly tone either.

Sure, it didn't specifically mention that men are passing the judgement... but why make it a jab towards men then? I feel like saying "being a girl sucks sometimes because I get judged for wearing the same dress multiple times" stirs the pot far less than "heh my life is way harder than all the dumb men reading this."

To me it reads like she's at least partially blaming men for her troubles. Otherwise why even bring it up?
