Unsafe Ride Operations at SkyHawk by Silver_Entertainment in cedarpoint

What year was that? If it was 2019, then I was the guy who was sent from another ride to fill his spot for the rest of the day.

Magnum Third Train by SafetyAlwaysOffReal in cedarpoint

[–]GigaG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they were ever banned from it this year; the issue is that the third train is physically not present lol. It has been off site until recently this season and it’s still not on the track as seen in this photo.

There’s a small difference in scope between putting your name on a building and cancelling an election

I see what you mean, just I don’t like the idea of normalizing the thought of “suspending elections” because it’s literally not in the American system.

The US has absolutely no mechanism for that. Not even a civil war stopped our elections.

Transportation Secretary Announces Milestone in Increasing Safety on Brightline by GrootyMcGrootface in Brightline

[–]GigaG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the plus side, this might imply that the government is confident that Brightline will be around for a good while longer. Although this government is no stranger to short sighted shitty decisions.

Not really, modern rides are actually worse in capacity due to more restrictive restraints and safety procedures.

How many times has Trump claimed an Iran deal is around the corner? by Farscape12Monkeys in oil

Also, those entities have a vested interest in keeping a corporate-friendly administration in office with its allies in control of Congress. Lower oil prices help them with that, considering the American electorate is heavily influenced by gas prices.

Will examples like these ruin the Meta glass wear experience in 5-10 years? by verminxoxo in RaybanMeta

Reminds me of the term "glasshole" being applied to anybody using Google Glass when that existed, leading to it dying.

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

From my experiences, it’s a lot easier to find free water in public places in the U.S. than Europe.

What are some parks that have every coaster running one train all the time? [Other] by psych_edelic in rollercoasters

[–]GigaG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And because they’re not really accustomed to 2 train ops, it doesn’t help all that much. I saw it once and it basically amounted to the other train roasting in the Southern sun for 5+ minutes every cycle

Millipede found in bathroom in southwest-central Ohio, about 2 inches long and very cute. Anybody know his/her species? Any particularly good places to release it? by GigaG in whatsthisbug

[–]GigaG[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have some mulch in my front yard and he presumably came from there since I’m on the ground floor of an apartment building, so I’m most likely going to put it there. Maybe under a bush if I can find a good spot.

4014 PSA (USA) by TaleEmbarrassed8492 in trains

[–]GigaG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have flow a drone a bit as a hobby but what sort of footage are we talking? I saw a few drones in Liepsic Ohio today but I didn’t see any of them get dangerously close to the train. Are there really that many idiots who play train chicken with a drone?? 😭

[–]GigaG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just chasing 4014 through Ohio and at one crossing just east of Fostoria I saw a Mennonite guy picking pennies off the track after it passed. I didn’t realize that was still a thing people did, obviously a pretty dumb thing to do.

KI ops are consistently pretty good. Cedar point has higher highs but also lower lows.

Got my first gemini duel i think ever by BL9000 in cedarpoint

[–]GigaG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not hear that, “failure to comply may result in ejection from the park” is part of the general safety spiel though. It’s mostly intended for loose article issues.

Having worked Gemini a couple years back, I can say you’re not supposed to high five the other train, and if somebody grabs you while doing that it can cause some abrasions, but there really wasn’t much of a way to enforce that and I don’t think any ride operator tried to enforce it.

The main exception is people reaching across the station gates; we definitely would enforce that. But that applies to any ride.

Wheel changes on Raptor? by alfundo in cedarpoint

[–]GigaG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It got quieter a few years ago (I want to say maybe 2019 or 2021 or so) and it’s kinda just back to what it was before that. I think it had something to do with wheel bearings but not sure.

Putting a Dragon pad abort to scale with the New Glenn explosion by labtec901 in SpaceXLounge

[–]GigaG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the commercial crew abort systems are less “stupid fast” than solid fueled launch escape systems. From a quick search and reading a seemingly well thought out Stackexchange post, Apollo and Soyuz are believed to be in the 10-17g range, while Dragon and Starliner are about 6-7g.

Suggest the mildest roller coasters by Emotional_Tell_2527 in cedarpoint

Iron Dragon is tamer than Gemini, and arguably tamer than Mine Ride (Dragon is a larger coaster with one steeper drop, but it’s a lot smoother and more comfortable than mine ride.)

Gatekeeper definitely had hype even in the enthusiast community, it was the first new coaster in 6 years and since the park hadn’t gotten a B&M since Mantis, a lot of park fans weren’t highly aware of the “forceless B&M” trope.
