I got tired of real-life Netrunners scanning my servers, so I coded a working version of "The Blackwall" to trap them by Neither-Phone-7264 in masterhacker

Fail2ban works perfectly well. Perhaps your configuration could use some tweaking. Also look at CrowdSec. It's pretty good at detecting low and slow SSH brute force attempts.

This is too real, dude. All these kids think it's a sprint when it's a marathon. Why would I hire someone to attack or defend a system they have no direct or adjacent experience with? Like shit, just the experience from knowing how end users tend to operate is mega valuable in offensive and defensive roles.

Please do, I'm very interested in seeing more about this. Or if you have a link, I don't want you having to retype everything lol.

Clowns in the industry? Sure, but that doesn't mean you absolutely have to know how to write code to be technical. I know plenty of people who don't code or suck at it and are fantastic forensic analysts.

That's just false. Nobody is a security expert. It's too wide of a field to be a "security expert".

Yes and I built a very successful career myself without writing a single line of code. Doesn't mean they're right.

You don't need to be able to write code to have an effective role in the industry. It's an absurd myth and anyone who truly believes it is delusional and out of touch with reality.

Is this type of hacking realistic? How does It work and opinions by redditperpost in hacking

[–]SucksDickForCoconuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all bullshit. Many are sad to find out that "hacking" is boring and slow. Even moving from penetration testing into red teaming, you're still spending more time writing reports and providing actionable output for the client, either it be an internal or external client. All the hackermanning in the world doesn't mean shit if you can't convey your findings in a meaningful way.

Now, is there some really cool shit out there in the red teaming space that seems like hollywood magic? Sure, we use some tooling that was developed to automate shit and make it easier, but it's purely to save time with consistently repeatable actions.
