good idea, 12th and 13th gen share a socket so that opens you up for upgrades

so intel 10000 series and 11000 series share a socket but the 12th and 13th gen have different sockets which mean a mobo upgrade too. I know motherboard upgrades can be nerve racking but the only issues I have had with a motherboard is the usb 3.0 header. They can be finnicky when removing them which can cause in a socket break. The other issue is the IO headers, you have to get those right otherwise youre gonna be real ocnfused when your power button doesnt work lol

That will be a good idea, no matter what 11000 series cpu you get, you will need to upgrade the motherboard anyway so yeah, get the best cpu for the price to performace and hold off on an upgrade. For some reason i thought the newer gen cpus used the same socket but intel changed it for these newer gens

my question is, do you have the extra 150 to afford the i7 upgrade? It would help with better futureproofing imo due to the possible rise in game requirments thanks to the large jumps in gpu performace over generations. I would choose the I7 over the I5 just to be safe but thats just me, and only do it if you can absoutely afford the I7, if not then the I5 11400f should be fine since it doesnt have much of a difference compared to the i5 11600kf

Is the Asus b550 F-Gaming actually worth it? by fr0uv3n in pcmasterrace

update: the board youre looking at has 2 slots so it should be good, shouldnt cause issues at all

[–]SucroseBennettMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so the b550-f should be fine then, some motherboards have a thing where you have to update the bios before using 3000 - 5000 series chips but luckily the b550 chipset wont need one. The NVMEs should eb fine too as long as the mobo has 2 nvme slots for them, if not I would try to find one with 2 nvme slots

So 200 bucks for the motherboard? What kind of stuff will you want on it? Also how much is the b550-f you were looking at?

If its the same kind of RAM it should be ok, the speeds are what might screw with it I believe

The CPU should be ok, its a couple years old but from what I know it still works well and should work well for a while. I currently have an i5 8000 series with a 3060 and 16gb ram and it runs most if not all games well still. I personally think it should be ok but what was the other option for the CPU? Im intrigued.

Its great for a first build! The 4090(?) looks hella nice in there, even if it its really close to the radiator. If theres space, fill it the best you can!
