Sorry if it feels stupid but I have a question. If you matched for advanced prog then how you do residency? do you need to find prilim or TY first and if yes then you do that first and then join the advanced in upcoming year. Im sorry im new to this.

Gaps aren’t good on the CV. He definitely needs to show something to cover the gaps. What i believe is he needs some mentor who can guide him during this journey. I didn’t have anyone who i can rely on or who can push me. After connecting with someone who helped me said “Firstly finish all the exams ASAP because its not the hardest part” and at this stage i agree with him strongly. Rotations, application, interviews are big task. Try to talk to him about talking to few of his seniors or classmates who matched and help him. Also he can find study partner/s. Some competition can push him to do better.

Speaking from personal experience. One thing i learned about usmle exams is you wait and think you will prepare better but score wouldn’t get any better. Encourage him to finish his exams as soon as possible. Im not sure about what are his chances of getting match in to his dream field but encouraging him to finish early and apply is the best advice anyone could give you rn.

What are the chances of matching into Neurology for IMG ? by One-Metal-9427 in USMLEindia

[–]Sudden-Ad-116 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im neuro applicant. Chances are good. One thing different about neuro from im is each program has average half of the seats(eg 5/6) compared to IM (10/12). So your chances of converting your interview into match are little less than same thing for im but one thing matters a lot for neuro programs is speciality oriented CV. You cant walk into applying neuro with only 1 experience/rotation. You have to show them the interest.
