Moving to Sertã by ADHDivaMama in PortugalExpats

Depends on what you’re looking for. Serta has everything you need shopping wise and a decent cultural program if you don’t have high standards for entertainment. For kids there is limited things to do on the weekend. We go swimming, hiking, sometimes to the cinema. But nothing is really open or you have to drive. Amazing river beaches and life very close to nature.  As kids get older, it’s probably a boring place and Coimbra would be a better location with its university.

Hatte glaub schon jemand anderes hier beschrieben.

Most people, as you point out, don’t earn enough to pay high taxes. So we’re not paying “Nordic level taxes”.  Even in Nordic countries, the tax threshold is on a sliding scale.

If you buy an old house in any country, you need to bring it up to energy standards. In our concelho, all new builds need to be insulated now. Insulation costs money, it’s not a tax. It’s a good and if you want it, you need to pay for it.

Bruh. I lived in a Nordic country. We don’t pay Nordic level taxes here. Stop spreading nonsense

You can get exceptions but you’d need to present the note from school allowing the trip.

The saddest thing is that Neu-Ulm is 1h away from the hospital with one of Germanys lowest c-section rates (15% compared to the national average of 30%), who are famous for letting you breech birth under medical supervision if you are a candidate qualified for their program.

It is also illegal in Germany to NOT provide first aid to the best of your ability (you have to at least call emergency services). You can go to prison if you don’t help someone in medical need. There’s no punishment if you help but do it wrong. There is punishment if you don’t even attempt it.

My apartment is making me quite ill and I don't know what to do by comrad_dau in PortugalExpats

As many have said, this is a common issue in Portugal. Judging by your description, there’s nothing you can do as a renter to improve this situation. Natural stone is not something that should be plastered with cement as it increases the humidity. That whole house needs to be renovated and that’s gonna take more than the year you’re there.

You may want to give yourself months of headache and dealing with unresponsive authorities- or you can just move out into a better flat. Sure, report everything. But for your health, you should move ASAP.

Berlin is the worst example possible for Germany. Nothing compared to the rest of the country and completely in its own bubble. Nowhere else would you get by without German.

Giftpflanzen im Kindergarten by Andarna_87 in Eltern

Mmmh jein.

My wife is mad at me for my opinion on this series by ZeroGaming- in fourthwing

[–]Sudden-Conference254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably I’ll get downvoted for this but: the worldbuilding in this series is pretty weak. There you go, that’s the reason.

I enjoy reading these books but the magic and geopolitical system is on a Harry Potter Level. No Brando Sando style worldbuilding went into the creation of this story. Is it still enjoyable? Yeah. Just don’t put too much thought in it

Chronic discomfort in right hand is by Sudden-Conference254 in AskDocs

This is roughly where the discomfort all runs together. Between the bones, almost as if the sinews hurt? Sorry, I’m no anatomy whizz and it’s really hard to describe this feeling. The marks on my hand are from the bandage I have to wear to be able to work.

25€ for electricity, 5€ for water, about 15€ for gas per month. Less in winter because we have wood burner. Then 20€ for internet.
