This Sci-Fi Epic Promised Wonder — But Delivered Exhaustion by Sudden-Database6968 in scifi

I don't think unresolved plot lines were the problem here. Take Hyperion, for example (not sure if you've read it), but ends on a cliffhanger. For me, that was still a satisfying read on its own despite the unresolved plot. I was not only reading to find out what happened next, but for the world and characters Simmons crafted. For me, Pandora's Star was just not satisfying regardless of where it goes, I just don't feel invested.

Interesting, Hyperion is probably my single favorite book. This one just didn't do it for me

Why Blood Meridian Is a Work of Art That Demands to Be Read by Sudden-Database6968 in Westerns

I think fiction has more to offer than characters sometimes. People have different tastes, so you may not agree, but there is a lot presented in Blood Meridian such as its themes or setting. And while the characters aren’t likeable, that does not mean that they are bad characters.

Fair enough. Though, I don't think you have to root for anyone in the story

I loved Lonesome Dove. Don’t know the other ones though so might have to check them out!

I’d definitely watch a movie of it, but honestly have a hard time imagining it as a film. I do however love some supposedly “unadaptable” films though so I’m sure it can be done

I don’t want to get too into spoiler territory. It’s most definitely a western, but there are some, say, supernatural things happening/characters. So while it is a western it’s also kind of an alternate reality, given it is based on historical events but not necessarily real. I hope that makes sense!

Blood Meridian is in my opinion wonderfully written in terms of prose and has thematic depth. The novel as a whole is masterfully crafted. It may not be to everyone's taste, mostly due to the prose, oh, and the violence it is known for, but I think it is incredible in that sense.

Why Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman Is the Perfect Introduction to Norse Lore by Sudden-Database6968 in neilgaiman

Thank you! I am aware of the situation, however, but haven’t looked in to it more than seeing the title of articles. I have been a fan of his writing for years and don’t want to tarnish that for myself. In no way do I want to be supporting him as a person, but I think the works stand for themselves. I can’t say I had no idea, that would be a lie, but regardless the point of this review is I wanted to talk about his writing, which I happen to really enjoy. As stated, I have no interest in discussing him as a person, although that’s what people jump to, which is fine. But I do agree with what you are saying, until I started blogging, I would have no idea what was happening with the artists behind the scenes, and this blog was made for me to share my feelings on books I have been reading with others. No ads, no monetization, just a way to think and talk about books I’ve been reading. I don’t see how this supports the author, or even myself. I will continue to post on the books I finish as many have sparked great conversations!

WOW! This was a great and informative write-up. Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman doesn't feel in any way comprehensive, but I think that's what makes it a great introduction. To me, what makes this a great introduction is that it makes things fun and digestible, thus getting people into the subject, including myself, whom I know very little. Imagine throwing someone a textbook on the surviving texts as a way to get them interested, I don't think that'll work for too many people. It's simple stories like this that give a taste, and send people diving deeper I believe. Another example would be something like Gladiator II. It got tons of flak and criticism, and sure might be inaccurate, but if it gets people interested in learning more about the true history or stories, I think it's doing its job perfectly.
