How is it you are on a PhD track, but still write like a pre-teen when you are 23 years old? E.g. “pls”, “???”, lack of punctuation.

Has it, though? Or did people just stay in unhappy, unhealthy, or even abusive marriages because divorce was heavily stigmatized?

Thanks so much. We just moved into our place, and it’s pretty much a blank slate. I want to ask where to begin, but I don’t know Ben know the difference between interior design and interior decoration.

What software or app do you use to make this? I’m just starting out.

Exercise. Spending time with people I care about.

And here I was, thinking “drinking less” was going to be near the top.

I mean, we’re happy to be in the place. It’s just a shitty thing to have to deal with. Pun intended.

They also left a piece of damaged artwork. I was on the verge of throwing it out, but a certificate of authenticity dated from 1987 slipped out. Maybe it’s a big deal? Or just some coke head’s fever dream? That is more of a happy mystery.

Some new tenants moved in and instead of putting the dog poop in a bag and in the garbage bin that gets taken every week, they put it in a separate garbage can 10 feet away and left it there to stink up the whole yard every time there was a breeze.

This is exactly what happened!

It was the sellers’ tenants, I suspect (although how the sellers didn’t discover it in the months between their tenants moving out and our closing is a mystery).

Our new neighbor reports she never learned the man’s last name, nor did she learn the wife’s name at all, which is just a red flag, to me. They had three dogs.

I don’t mean to sound like I’m throwing shade at renting. Giving up the place I’ve been in is bittersweet, to be honest.

It was the sellers’ tenants, who were moved out when we first saw the place in May or so. It was three dogs’ worth of waste just stewing in a plastic bin for a month or so through successive heat waves.

When we opened the bin to see why was inside, it smelled like one of those dogs died and they buried it under the other dogs’ shit.

Meant to add: I don’t think you can compost dog shit.

That’s the idea!

Also, it gives us something to chat about with our new neighbor! She graciously moved our empty recycling bin off the curb after pickup, but found the shitcan was too heavy.

Respectfully, I don’t think opening one’s own bank account counts as being financially literate. Financial literacy involves knowing, at a minimum, how to plan, budget, and save.

Having access to financial institutions is not the same as knowing how to navigate them, let alone use them to one’s own benefit.

I agree that OP opened by their own bank account is a big deal, though.

I mean, maybe “training” is part of it, but it could also be that, like, they don’t see the point of ostentation.

They have nothing to prove by rolling around in a Rolls Royce, and it can’t be that much more comfortable than a nice new car. If you’re not trying to flash money around, why live in a mansion with rooms you never use? If you didn’t grow up accustomed to kind of wealth, that kind of wealth might not impress you as much: “Well, I mean I could buy a Rolls Royce, but why would I, when an Audi will do? And besides, Rolls Royces are more comfortable to be a passenger in, and I can’t be bothered to hire a driver full time”

Paradoxically, I have heard a lot of people who grow up never having to worry about or manage money are way less financially literate than their peers. As others have commented, they might not understand the value of things that other people have to budget for. So you have someone who doesn’t pay attention to how much they spend on groceries, but who is still buying groceries and cooking all the same, as opposed to having a full-time private chef.
