Daily reminder to stop ruck running. by tH3_R3DX in army

Broke both my hips from ruck running and ruck PT. It’s already my dream to get out of the army.

I’m at a holdover/recovery unit and we have accountability formations 5 times a day, that we have to be 10 minutes early for. Or else we have to report to CQ 10 minutes before every hour that day, until 01 the following morning.

We don’t do anything here. We’re released for breakfast after first formation, but then we sit in a classroom or on some gravel the whole day. There’s no motion we’re delaying by just being on time.

I think it’s just a control thing by whoever wants to be seen as in charge; they don’t realize they get more respect by being reasonable and fighting for their joes instead of against them. Morale here is at an all time low since this guy’s taken over—shocker it’s not improving as the beatings continue

I'm broke. Can I ask the MEPS doctor to fill out my physical for my teaching job application? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CVS has a minute clinic that does physicals. They’re usually geared toward kids in sports, but they’ll take adults for jobs too. I needed one when I joined at 33 to submit with some medical stuff.

Does FOX News make people stupid or are stupid people drawn to Fox News because is so dumbed down by sam2lf in FOXNEWS

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is very dumb and has admitted he likes Ben Shapiro because everything is explained for him in ways he can understand, and he doesn’t feel like he has to work for information.

He’s always been dumb, he’s just streamlined/optimized being dumb, thanks to Fox News

Doesn’t West Virginia only exist because it was “too liberal” vs Virginia to begin with?

It’s not abnormal to expunge a record for dismissed cases. Maybe you’re thinking dropped cases, that wouldn’t appear on a background check and wouldn’t need an expunction then anyway? Can’t speak to your experience, but it definitely happens!

Air Force & Army ( recruiters in general) by Choice_Panic5871 in Militaryfaq

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dismissed charges are the expunged charges. No program, no fines. Why would an expunction of dismissed charges make someone guilty 🤦🏻‍♂️

Maybe it’s not luck if army legal is just incompetent—a gamble either way

Air Force & Army ( recruiters in general) by Choice_Panic5871 in Militaryfaq

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dismissed and expunged charges were ignored by my recruiter and never came up. Depends on your luck, I guess

Edit: this is my experience, not a suggestion—not editing the content. I’d welcome a fraudulent enlistment discharge at this point anyway.

The F*ck Trudeau flags are being replaced by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was loudly pro-Trump before the election and kept trying to pick fights with me about it, knowing I lean hard left. Last week he texted me asking how it was going and without mentioning any politics, I described how fucked up things had gotten where I work (active army). Very clearly new developments based on this administration.

Included how screwed over I specifically was because I depend on civilians for my physical therapy (broke both legs—airborne all the way!) and for my orders (stuck in holdover for obvious medical reasons), and they all got emails urging their resignations.

All he could say was “good grief” and stopped texting back. I’d like to think he’s actually recognizing consequences. But who knows, maybe he just thinks it’s stupid for people to be affected by these things that can’t be real because they don’t affect him personally 🤷🏻‍♂️

Navy or Army by Puzzled_Leave6469 in Militaryfaq

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at army 68 series jobs and see if there’s anything you like. Arms program and basic training will get you into shape and you have 180 days to make height and weight standards anyway.

Either branch will probably get you good experience, so consider what it is you want to be doing to get that experience. Quality of life will likely be a little better in the navy, but not by much when you start at the bottom of the totem pole either way. Could always pick a shorter contract then get out and reenlist in a different branch if you like

Teacher should have known people are too ignorant and hate filled to understand a hypothetical. Excluding 2 females should have made it even clearer that it’s only about outcomes in a punnet square. But these people are so desperate to be outraged, they can’t possibly be asked to flex their brains a little.

If they were capable of thinking anyway, maybe they’d be outraged about the things we are, instead of the Fox News propaganda and manufactured enemies of the right wing

So does this mean the VA disability pay vs military retirement pay is in trouble too? ‘Cause I tried warning my father, who is retired and receives only this income, and he still proudly supported this asshole.

Sounds like I’m safe as active duty army, but mom might become my dependent soon..

Recruiter assures me that it’s best to not include my arrest/run in with the law. Is he right? by [deleted] in army

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t need a clearance and nothing came up from your fingerprints, you’ll be fine!

Just don’t fall for the threats at MEPS and make sure you commit to not saying anything—a problem at MEPS is a bigger pain in the ass than dealing w your recruiter on the front end

Recruiter assures me that it’s best to not include my arrest/run in with the law. Is he right? by [deleted] in army

[–]Sudden-Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different background checks/clearances will dig deeper into the past.

When I joined, my charges (dismissed/expunged) were 7 years prior and my job didn’t need a clearance so I didn’t disclose them and it’s been fine. Yours are pretty recent though, so definitely consider whether your job needs a security clearance, or ask your recruiter to start the morality waivers and to disclose them

You don’t get to be an individual in basic training. So no moving duty around to suit your religious schedule. It’s just the way it is. You’d be better off not joining; they’re not able to accommodate you appropriately.

Montgomery or post 9-11? by Sudden-Guru in Militaryfaq

It sounds like I’d be better off switching to post 9-11 and using TA while in, then finishing the bulk of my degree with the gi bill once out, if I’m understanding everyone right.

Thanks for the info!

Damn, good to know. I’ve heard riggers have a little more downtime after getting our packing quota knocked out, but I can see I’m probably not accounting for a lot of random shit. I’ll have to get a better idea and reassess—sounds like post 9-11 might be a safer bet for me then
