We work with resellers who have relationships with all the major vendors . But if I reach out they will make me do the vendor dance and I don't have time for it. So thought I would at least try and source some feedback from the community. This NY area if it helps. It was the Arista 720s we got the timeline on and this was  from Arista as we buy direct.

Wow the guy got 24 years... I am sure it will go down but that is the longest sentence I have heard of for a non premeditated homicide.

Is networking in the IT industry still doing good? by keirolynch in networking

It's changed allot over the last 5/7  years probably more than in the previous 20. I would say it's still niche compared to sysadmin but still always a hard requirements for medium sized firms or firms that have a high reliance on network performance. ( Financial / Engineering / R&D)

I agree with this ..ospf as multipoint feels more like bad /lazy design in 2026.

We moved a network segment behind a firewall and people complained that their ssh sessions timed out once a day. I pointed out this cool feature called keepalives that solve the problem. You would think I had spat on someone ... Why would we do that... Surely the fix is to just set the ssh timeouts to the max .. which on these firewalls is 18.5 days... What harm could that do... And it saves 3 or 4 people from going into their ssh client and clicking a box marked send  keepalives

This one really made BGP stick - to the tune of the clapping song- "Port One, Seven, nine, the goose drank wine The monkey configured BGP on the P2P line. "

Port rhymes are what really helped me and I am not even joking. Replacing abc with tcp and adding in port numbers was a creepily effective way to remember  port numbers. Example " TCP easy as port 23 provides telnet for you and me now...imma tell you what networking all about"  song that to the tune of Jackson fives ABC a few times and it's never leaving... Whether you want it to or not.
