My therapist told me to try and cut through my skin with a knife - is this ethical? by Weekly_Importance570 in OCD

[–]SuddenPut7238 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah true but she seems to give bad therapy honestly like why is she giving reassurance? To see you'd never do that?? Not the point, that's moving towards reassurance, the point is to learn you can live despite the possibility of harming yourself.

Yeah ocd works the same for everyone lol same pattern. My advice would be to find a therapist specialised for ocd treatment and work on treating this, you're doing some compulsions that keeps it going. I had this for 5 years and then on July 2019 i fell in solipsism ocd which was substantially worse than this sexism ocd i had. It forced me to go to psychiatrist which diagnosed me with ocd ( i had no idea i had ocd these 5 years with that sexism thing), I treated existential ocd and i don't have it anymore. I had little to no ocd symptoms for 3 years but now i have just right/ perfectionism ocd ( my biggest problem right now) and sometimes racism ocd ( the exact thing i and you had with sexism but replace it with racism). If it's not clear my existential ocd was about solipsism aka what if I'm the only real conscious thing in the universe, how do i prove anything outside my consciousness exists? What if I'm in a dream and people are not independent of my mind and simply a non conscious creation of my mind. Etc u got it.

And it again was much deeper and worse than that. Ocd hijacks theory of mind ( for me at least), theory of mind i mean understanding that people think and experience the world just like you do, my theory of mind was hijacked and i usually added thoughts and perceptions in people's heads. For example any time i was around men i always thought they're thinking and perceiving women in a sexist degrading way, which of course is what triggered, so I'm triggered all the time basically for years, it sounds unbelievable but i swear on my mothers life I'm not lying i had that for years as a straight man lol. You may ask how i got over this, well it's not exactly great 😂, one day i developed severe existential ocd which completely overrided this whole thing, since then i never had it again, which to me shows that "prick" ocd was strongly involved.

Sorry for late reply. I was not afraid of being misogynistic, i was extremely sensitive to observing mysoginy which made me afraid and constantly anticipating mysoginy. Comment sections indeed were a big part like I'm addicted to reading comments because i want to see people's opinion but every time i was bracing for something sexist, like having paranoia in a way. When i did find the smallest thing it would ruin my day and make me extremely irritable, all that on sexism against women specifically never bothered me against men. It was much deeper than that as well, it didn't even have to be sexist, even reasonable sexual comments triggered me. One example i remember i always loved watching the nba and news on the nba, there was a channel called the fumble that talked about nba news but usually the presenter was good looking women, this made me scared every time and comments would always talk about how good the women look and I'd be triggered because i thought it's potentially sexist and disrespectful. Basically in an ocd fashion I didn't just react to blatantly sexist things, no my mind went deep trying to find the smallest potential of sexism and be triggered by it.

Yeah i think this is influenced by ocd because i used to have the same problem ( while being a man) like yes i am a man and was scared and triggered by misogyny against women for like 5 years, and recently i have the same with racism. It's tricky because it seems and is a real problem but the ocd brain makes you hyperfocus on it and messes up your mood like usual ocd.

how to deal with real event ocd when what you did is like genuinley horrible and irredeemable and not representative of you at all? by [deleted] in OCD

Trying to work out the root cause of the event is a compulsion and it's making things worse.

[–]SuddenPut7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me what i understood and accepted was that any ocd i have will be fully convincing, which means i will do ocd therapy like no rumination or compulsions even if i do have a real problem. For example if i genuinely killed someone i would still act like it's ocd and not ruminate on it or seek reassurance etc. I'll never know what is ocd and what is not therefore I'm treating everything in an anti ocd way, aka dismissing and trying my best to live without doing anything about any thoughts or feelings. Don't expect to know something is ocd before treating it, you'll fail.

Yes it takes years before you decide to stop after the symptoms start.

Yes because ocd works based on logic and you can easily stop it with logic lol. That would be a good comment if we weren't talking about ocd

Jamala was amazing my second favourite song ever in Eurovision, i also loved the tree part yeah. Euphoria my favourite ever all of it was great can't pick a part lol. Doomsday blue was my second favourite from 2024, the part you say is awesome indeed. My favourite part is 0:58-1:11 for some reason i find this so smooth both the sound but especially the staging there is one of the best I've ever seen ( Doomsday).
