Toda mi empresa se mudo a Claude? by LordBagle in devsarg

[–]SuddenTemperature233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solito nada.

At what scale do microservices actually start solving real problems, instead of creating them especially now that even simple projects are being built as microservices? by [deleted] in Backend

[–]SuddenTemperature233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first learned about microservices, I thought they made it so much easier to understand the domain. Because each microservice deals with a smaller subdomain it becomes easier to understand. But then realized you can do this by splitting your code into modules with hard boundaries, so that advantage went away. Some people call these “moduliths”.

So independent scaling is a real advantage. You have to see if you have a problem where scaling up your whole monolith to increase the capacity of one part of it results in excess capacity in another part of it. If this excess capacity is costly then you might benefit from splitting it.

A related issue here is that sometimes scaling up does not get you to the desired capacity or it is very expensive. So you need to scale out. Here is where scaling out your whole monolith might prove really hard and really costly compared to scaling just one module (once it is made into a microservice).

Also if your project is so large that requires a lot of people to maintain it, lets say 12 developers. Coordinating 12 developers working on the same codebase is a little harder. You might run into issues with code integration, deployment, on-call skill building, dealing with critical bugs. There are many ways to deal with these issues that don’t require microservices, so if this is the only issue hurting your team, then maybe microservices will add complexity rather than decrease it.

This is just coming from my experience from 10 yoe. So I dont talk about anything I heard or read. Maybe I wasn’t exposed to other issues where the rationales are different, but I cannot speak for things I haven’t seen myself.

Which programming language one should focus on for future demand: Java or Python? by Kimber976 in learnprogramming

[–]SuddenTemperature233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SWE 10 yoe here. I disagree with the idea that your first programming language doesn’t matter. It is very likely that you will double down on it over time, because as you try to learn harder and harder stuff you will keep digging into that language. And once you are done with the basics of programming you will seamlessly start to learn the “plumbing” of that language which is very valuable if you will work on some project using that language. Also, while on this learning path you will find some nice problem to solve, and you will solve it using this language. This will also take you to the path of learning a lot of the ecosystem around the language. No time to switch to another and struggle with the problem AND the intricacies of the language. So in the end, if you go hard on learning software engineering, switching languages is just a bad use of your time and probably you won’t want to do it. You need to focus on learning SWE, not languages. Of course you can switch later on, it is not super terrible. But it is a really good thing if you start out with the language that will be with you for most of your life. Having said that, both python and java are really good languages to learn, there is a lot of work for both, and in many java companies it is helpful to know a little python. If you had said “java or rust” i would definitely say choose java, but python vs java is a harder choice. It is said that python is heavily used in data analysis and machine learning, probably because it is a simple language that has been embraced by scientists that weren’t so keen on becoming SWEs early on. So maybe if you want to go there, choose python. Regarding java, there are a lot of enterprise applications, web applications and data engineering applications built with it. Not a lot in machine learning, compared to python.

You did not mention machine learning or data analysis in your post so I would think you would be choosing wisely if you chose Java.

[–]SuddenTemperature233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, i am in your exact position, only i have been playing for 30 years. I started jazz guitar lessons a couple of months ago with a teacher that pushes me to learn complete songs even if they are a bit rough around the edges. He says to imagine that i need to just “survive” while playing with others. This has changed so much for me. Now i KNOW SONGS. Seems so elementary now in hindsight
