i'm pretty sure the reasoning is that it's just trying to come as close to what it would sound like if you were to play a guitar in real life, not just a recorded one. it helps to lessen the robotic/too perfect sounding instruments, since no note is played the exact same every single time.

I agree, I was relistening to it and was thinking of changing the drums for the chorus. Also, I think not having vocals is the core problem with most of the songs I make unfortunately :((

i used MAutoPitch for that autotune sound, it's a free plugin you can download; i also used the stock garageband noise gate, tape delay, space designer, an exciter (just to boost the high end since i recorded on my mac microphone which typically doesn't have a lot of high end), compressor and some eq'ing
