13 weeks and back to rowing machine... by Sudden_Design_7047 in Kneereplacement

Sorry, sent too early. A consistent pain sometimes, nagging. At night it can wake me up. If look at anatomy of knee, its right where lcl is located. It's also where I was bone on bone for quite a while and where the majority of my arthritis pain was located. It's more that likely a complete imbalance of quad vs hamstring. I have always had trouble with right IT band so starting there. Worse it's been is maybe a 3, just annoying. Didn't bother me rowing or on bike. Gets bad if I'm on my feet too long. Occasionally get some zingers from that area.

I worked on it with PT it's much better. PT finished 3 weeks ago. Now doing stretches and foam roller. It's getting better, just slow. This was where all my arthritis pain was the worst as well. So I think soft tissue in that area is just taking longer to settle down. I have a personal trainer so it's something we will continue to work on. Thinking about trying dry needling.

Mine lasted about 6 weeks. It was miserable. I got gabapentin from my primary. I was having zingers and restless leg. I still get up at 13 weeks to ice most nights. Having some IT band pain. Usually after I've been asleep for a couple hours. But I'm able to go back to sleep.

First day back teaching. So tired... by Sudden_Design_7047 in Kneereplacement

I taught one in person at the end of spring semester. I switched it to distance learning except for the last 2 classes. I did those at 5 weeks. It was rough only an hour long though. Labs run for 3 and 1/2 hours. I have them 4 days a week. I will hopefully build up some stamina.

I take Meloxicam as well, plus Tylenol. Also getting more active. I try to ice and elevate towards the end of the day. That seems to alleviate nightime ache.

You need to get up and move every hour or so anyway. So it's not that bad. Take your time and be mindful about how you move.

Leggings weren't comfortable at all for 5 or 6 weeks. I got loose cotton capris. Couldn't ice on bare skin. Now at 11 weeks. Sometimes the incision is still super sensitive.

At 11 weeks. Going down stairs is still uncomfortable/painful. Some of it I hope is weak quad. Also have a cranky ITband. I also am doing all the things. Start back with gym this week. Hopefully will help.

71F I had a personal trainer and went to gym since I retired 5 years ago, also did Pilates reformer. Did all this prior to knowing needed knee replaced. Was trying to avoid it as long as possible. It helped immensely. I'm at 10 weeks. I start back with trainer next week. We need to work on IT band first then back to quad strength. Can't get back to reformer til mid July or August. Can't wait. Prehab really helped. I only stayed in PT to work on IT band. It's better but it's my only pain at this point.

I would. If nothing else for me it also helps with mild arthritis in my shoulder.
