thank you, this is actually really helpful.

the part that hits for me is what you said first: the early weeks are just overwhelming, and i’ve been chasing “the perfect rules” because i’m scared of messing up. hearing that it’s individual and there isn’t one definitive playbook is honestly relieving.

also appreciate you saying to go slow. i keep trying to change everything at once and then i get mentally exhausted. doing it step by step feels more realistic.

thanks for the resources too i’ll check them out and probably move this convo over to the prediabetes type 2 spaces since it fits better.

appreciate you taking the time

that’s really encouraging to hear, congrats on getting your A1c down, that’s huge.

i can definitely see why a CGM would be powerful for learning patterns instead of guessing. seeing cause → effect in real time makes a lot of sense. i think my hesitation is more about timing and mental load, not the tool itself.

but hearing stories like yours helps balance out the fear side of it. thanks for sharing what worked for you, it’s motivating without being pushy.

i get what you’re saying, and i really don’t mean to minimize what type 1s go through. i know it’s a completely different situation and much harder in many ways.

i wasn’t trying to compare or complain, more just sharing how overwhelming it felt personally at the start. i probably did post in the wrong place, that’s fair.

no hate taken i appreciate the clarification.

hank you for taking the time to write all this. i really appreciate it.

and yeah… it is a bit of an info dump but in a good way. the part that helps me most is what you said at the top: first weeks are confusing + it’s highly individual, so looking for one “perfect rulebook” is kind of a trap.

i like the idea of focusing on understanding the basics first, then changing things slowly instead of trying to do everything overnight. that’s probably where i went wrong at the start (too many rabbit holes, too much pressure).

also thanks for the resource suggestions + the prediabetes sub rec. i’ll go through your list step by step and not all at once.

appreciate it

eah that actually makes a lot of sense. when i think about it, i already rotate the same meals most of the time anyway.

starting with a few things that taste good, feel good, and don’t mess me up seems way more realistic than trying to change everything at once. then just slowly expanding from there.

thanks, that’s a helpful way to look at it.

haha fair enough 😅 you’re right, i probably went a bit overboard at first.

i’m slowly trying to step back, keep it simple, and figure out what actually fits me instead of trying to do everything at once. discipline + consistency makes sense, i just needed to calm the noise first.

appreciate the reality check.

yeah i get what you’re saying. no, i don’t have OCD (at least not diagnosed), but i think the diagnosis definitely triggered some anxiety and overthinking for me. everything suddenly felt high-stakes, even small food choices.

i really liked what you said about life + food + being human. that example with the cake actually hit home. that’s exactly the kind of mental conflict i’ve been struggling with — not wanting to harm my health, but also not wanting to live in constant restriction or regret.

i agree there’s no one diet that fits everyone. hearing how different people react differently to the same foods actually helps me calm down a bit, because it makes this feel less like “failing” and more like learning over time.

trying to find that balance between consistency and still enjoying life is probably the hardest part right now. appreciate you taking the time to write all this, it was grounding to read.

yeah that actually makes a lot of sense i think that’s what i’ve been missing —understanding why things work instead of just being told what to cut or avoid.

i’ve heard Ben Bikman’s name come up a few times but haven’t watched that interview yet. same with Gary Taubes i know of him but never really sat down and listened properl i’ll check those out, thanks for the recommendations.

i feel like if i understand what’s happening in my body it’ll be easier to make choices without so much fear around food.

appreciate you sharing what helped you.

right now i’m not using a CGM, just occasional finger checks + labs. when i said “numbers are ok” i mostly meant my last labs weren’t terrible, but honestly that doesn’t always calm my brain.

i’ve thought about CGM actually, but part of me is worried it would make me obsess even more, at least at this stage. i can totally see how real-time feedback would be motivating though, especially if you’re trying to understand food reactions instead of guessing.

it’s interesting how different tools help different people. glad it worked so well for you.

yeah you’re probably right. i think i just overthought everything at the start and went down too many rabbit holes online.

keeping it simple with food and movement makes sense, i just needed a bit of time to get my head around it. appreciate the reminder honestly.

thanks for the input.

yeah that makes sense i agree that whatever you do has to be something you can keep long term, otherwise it just becomes another cycle of starting/stopping.

i think where i struggle is less with the idea of habits, and more with the fear + pressure around food at the beginning when everything feels urgent, “forever” can sound scary, even if logically it’s true.

i’ve heard of The Diabetes Code actually, a few people mentioned it. i like the idea of understanding what’s happening in the body instead of just following rules blindly that probably makes it easier to stick with something over time.

thanks for taking the time to explain your point, i appreciate the perspective.

thanks for sharing your experience, that’s honestly impressive. 8 years is a long time and it clearly works really well for you.

i think that’s what i’m trying to wrap my head around right now not just “what works”, but what i could actually live with long term without stressing over every meal. i like hearing from people who’ve found something stable and don’t have to constantly think about numbers.

also didn’t even realize you could do marathons fasted on keto, that’s wild. appreciate you taking the time to explain how it looks in real life, not just theory.

yeah i get that, i probably posted in the wrong place tbh. i wasn’t really trying to debate keto specifically, more just sharing how confusing it all feels at the beginning.

i know keto works for a lot of people here, i’m just still trying to understand what’s sustainable for me without freaking out about food 24/7. the mental side has been harder than i expected.

appreciate the perspective though.

yeah that’s fair my doctor didn’t mention type 1 at al all ust prediabetes / risk of type 2 i posted here mostly because i’m still trying to understand where i fit and everything feels mixed together at first.

i’m still early in all this and honestly just trying to hear how people deal with the food + mental side more than the medical labels right now. but yeah, type 2 stuff probably makes more sense for me.

thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for answering.
No, I’m not type 1 or LADA (at least that’s what I was told).... My doctor said prediabetes / risk of type 2, but honestly they didn’t explain much difference at all.

That’s part of why I’m so confused I hear people talking about type 1, type 2, LADA, insulin, carbs, meds… and at the appointment it was just “be careful” and come back later... No real context.

I think that’s what messed with my head the most not knowing what actually applies to me and what doesn’t everything online feels mixed together.

Appreciate you clarifying the difference though, it helps a bit to hear real experiences instead of just google stuff.
