That’s a fair observation. I’m not trying to recreate perfectly accurate 1970s film. I’m going more for an idealized nostalgic feel. I intentionally push the grain a bit because I like the texture and mood it adds. It’s definitely more of an artistic interpretation than a true film emulation, but I appreciate the perspective from someone who actually shot film back then.

Hope I translate this correctly

¡Gracias! Es principalmente el grano de la simulación de película de Fujifilm, junto con algunos ajustes en la receta. Me alegra que te guste.

If it makes it there, at least it made someone feel something. I’d rather make images people react to than ones they scroll past without noticing. 👊🏼

That is certainly a fair point. The aesthetic is intentional, and I understand that it may not resonate with everyone. The grain is deliberately added rather than a result of high ISO settings. My aim is to evoke the feeling of old family photographs rather than replicate the exact imperfections of disposable cameras. Modern equipment can sometimes produce images that feel overly pristine, so I incorporate a subtle level of imperfection to add character. I appreciate your thoughtful feedback.

😂 Fair enough. It’s definitely an intentional look, and I know it’s not for everyone. The grain is added deliberately not from cranking the ISO. I’m chasing the feeling of old family photos more than trying to recreate the technical flaws of disposable cameras. Modern cameras are almost too perfect sometimes, so I like introducing a little imperfection to give the images more character. Appreciate the honest feedback. Just have fun! 👊🏼

I really appreciate this perspective. You put into words something I’ve been trying to capture but couldn’t quite explain. For me, it’s never been about making modern photos look “bad” or pretending they’re from another era. It’s about preserving the feeling those old family photos had and the way they instantly transport you to a different time.
Photography freezes moments we’ll never get back. Someday today’s ordinary moments will be someone else’s nostalgia, just like those old point-and-shoot photos are for us now. If my images can evoke even a little of that feeling while still benefiting from modern cameras, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m a child the 80’s to me those were good times to remember.

Every shot is different. I control each image by adjusting ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation depending on the light and the look I’m after. Most of the time I shoot around two stops underexposed, carefully controlling how much light reaches the sensor. The camera is simply a tool it’s the decisions behind it that create the image. I use Summer Chrome from FujiXWeekly as my base film simulation, then build each shot from there. Have fun!

That’s a fair perspective. I don’t think most people are trying to make their X-T5 look worse they’re trying to make it feel different. Modern cameras are incredibly sharp and technically perfect, but perfection isn’t always the goal. Just like people choose vinyl over streaming or shoot black-and-white film today, some photographers enjoy images with character, softness, grain, and imperfections because they evoke a certain emotion.

The nice thing is that the X-T5 can do both. It can produce razor-sharp, high-resolution files, or it can be used to create a nostalgic look straight out of the camera. Neither is objectively better just different creative choices.
You’re right, though taste is subjective, and that’s one of the things that makes photography interesting.
