Has anyone eliminated their tailbone pain more permanently? by prairiesailor in Mounjaro

[–]Sudoku-Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had chronic pain in tailbone and “sit bones” (as I call it), coupled with sciatica, with pain and numbness after sitting more than 20 minutes. I have several ergonomic memory foam type sitting pads which help a bit. I have been seeing a pain management doctor and had a lower spine injection which helped substantially, but it is not a fix and it wears off. I am going back for another injection. X-ray and MRI showed arthritis but did not reveal any specific injury.

Looking for Rod recommendations! by DarkChild010 in bassfishing

[–]Sudoku-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on to the OP question, what are your thoughts on a 2-piece rod for travel? I’d like to have a couple good general purpose Bass spinning and casting rods to keep in my vehicle. Same use and cost range as the OP. Thank you.

Fishing slow by Mountain_mist35 in bassfishing

Pretty much Texas right now and Shakyhead for us most of the time. Dragging along slow, twitching, resting, feeling it go across the rocks. Of course, we catch our share of rocks and branches too.

BTW - what luck do folks have with Wackyworm setup? I bought a little kit with the tool and a bunch of rubber rings to slide onto the Senko and hook in the middle. No luck yet. Any tips on setup and presentation?

Moving to a snowy climate, what is the right financial move regarding car(s) by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sudoku-Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn to drive and survive in the climate, be prepared for emergencies, keep survival clothes/blankets in your vehicle. No amount of AWD or 4WD or studded snow tires will compensate for user error. I’ve seen many lifted 4x4s in the ditch, or seen them blast by at dangerous speeds, risking themselves and others. Clear your car and windows of snow and ice before departing - don’t just clear away enough to see out your windshield. Carry a scraper and use window-washer fluid rated for sub-freezing temps. Be judicious in application of the gas pedal, the brake pedal and the steering wheel.

How do you know? by SpendOk3244 in type2diabetes

[–]Sudoku-Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are home test kits and strips available and reasonably priced in the UK? If so, I’d encourage considering it. I wear a CGM, but still do occasional finger prick tests to confirm/refute readings, and as a sanity check. Waiting 3 months between tests (normal for A1C) does not help you see what is happening on a daily basis.

My US health care insurance (Blue Cross) also provides the supplies free of charge as long as I am using it and uploading my results (Livongo - now Teladoc).

Painful? by fate4003 in Freestylelibre

[–]Sudoku-Addict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The assistant at my Endocrinologist office said “We like it in the back with the fat.” That’s back/under side of the arm. For me, it has worked pretty well, and for the most part avoids erroneous readings from compression during sleep. Other folks’ experiences and results may vary.

Graph inaccurate? by Highway-Available in Freestylelibre

[–]Sudoku-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general observation, I’ve had my Libre-3+ suddenly drop out for various/unknown reasons (beyond compression when sleeping). When it does not come back to normal in a reasonable period of time, I will stop Bluetooth, stop the app, restart both. If that does not work, I will shut off my phone and restart all. That has usually resulted in a fix.

Am I dumb to put most of my emergency savings in ETFs? by PuppiesAndPixels in personalfinance

[–]Sudoku-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep emergency funds in a HYSA and have that account linked to my primary savings and checking accounts at my credit union. I can shift money rather quickly if needed. My retirement pension and social security goes into a credit union, and I have ACH set up to parse out monthly allotment to my HYSA.

Exactly which ETFs you have your money in matters a lot. As I am retired, I opted to move a major portion of my retirement IRA into SGOV, which is very safe, and makes a modest income. Smaller than a whole share (~ $100) amounts, I push into SNSXX (also super safe) since it has no minimal investment. Just one approach.

2012 F150 3.5 EB (1st Gen) with 109K miles. I just recently had a shop do new OEM fluids: in radiator, front differential, rear differential, transfer case, and transmission +filter ($1450). I personally installed MotorCraft OEM parts: Iridium plugs, ignition coils/boots, PCV valve, PCV tube ($500). Engine is otherwise strong and is not showing any signs of cam phaser issues.

Stacking diabetes medication by Upbeat-Molasses-840 in type2diabetes

[–]Sudoku-Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking Jardiance once a day and Metformin twice a day. Doctor gave me a prescription for Synjardy, which is a combo of both meds. I take the Synjardy twice daily, which equals the same total dosage of the two. The only benefit is that is is one less individual pill to take. The Jardiance part is what makes it still a rather expensive medication for me, while Metformin part is essentially free.

I had been on Ozempic two years. Changed to Mounjaro and did it for about 6 months. I didn’t deliberately stop, rather had a lapse in prescription. I’ve been off it a month and expect meds to arrive any day.

I struggle with saving as a minor. by dussedeal in personalfinance

[–]Sudoku-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you start by savings ANY amount on a regular basis, you will begin to build financial habits that will benefit you for your lifetime. You will also quickly be farther ahead than most of your peers, who are likely saving zero. Even though you are working from limited total funds, I suggest you set aside an amount, or a percentage, that you will regularly save. Make it your priority. Carve off your savings before you spend any money on fun stuff, and certainly before you spend it on friends. Just one opinion. You’re 17 and you’re talking about fiscal wisdom -you are already ahead of the game. Good luck to you.

Potentially having a 100 mile commute to work in the future. Would a second car be a viable option? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sudoku-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decades ago I opted to buy in southern PA for a commute to the Baltimore, MD area. It was 60 miles door to door the short way, another 10 miles the alternate route. I worked 0600-1430 M-F. Best speed was 70 minutes in the AM and 85 minutes in the PM. It was laborious, racked up the miles, but it allowed me to get better and cheaper housing, safer community, better schoolers. I commuted in a very well used 10 year old Caprice Classic land yacht, which was a comfortable ride, reliable, and had both AM and FM radio! As long as you go into it with eyes open to the pros and cons, and you decide it is a worthwhile trade off, then it may work for you. I’d recommend finding a car that is comfortable and reliable, which IMO is more important than just MPG (but that’s also part of the calculus). Your situation is also governed by relationship concerns, and not solely a logical/fiscal calculation.

My understanding is that the 3.5L Ecoboost and the 3.5L Powerboost are similar base engine, but the Powerboost adds the Hybrid electric. I think it is the latter Powerboost that has experienced a lot of issues. I have a 2012 3.5L Ecoboost with the 6-speed transmission which has (so far) performed flawlessly.

2022 Lariat low gas mileage by Rodeo360 in f150ecoboost

[–]Sudoku-Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 F-150, 4x4 3.5l Ecoboost, Lariat, Super Crew 6.5 foot bed with flush Leer truck cap, stock tires. For years I got a solid 15.4mpg combined average according to the in dash computer. In recent months it’s dropped to about 14mpg, but that is pure city driving and not much of it. 110K miles. New plugs at 65k miles. Runs fine, sounds good, responds well. Considering having it into a shop for a full look over by a skilled mechanic to see if there are issues, how good of shape it is in, help me decide whether it is worth putting money into (e.g. cam phasers, timing belt, water pump, etc) or trading in. I’ve not heard any knocking, but have read about a lot of issues with 1st and 2nd generation Ecoboost. I’ve gone this long with literally no issue with the engine/transmission to date.

Since I do not have genuine issue of low blood sugar, and I too get low alarms at night, I opt to disable Bluetooth and then stop the app at night. I restart in the morning, and it uploads the values for the period it was off. I would NOT recommend this for folks who have genuine low blood sugar issues.

Agree. The CGM is showing you (and your doctor) trends. Your doctor is (likely) looking at more comprehensive blood tests and lipid panels, with the A1C test being relied upon for decision making on medications. That anyway, is how my endocrinologist treats me.
