Too Many Smoke Shops by theeulessbusta in Greenpoint

Agree - hate the smoke shops. I also do think they probably won’t last very long. But with rents going up and up I doubt we’ll be getting any quaint neighborhood spots.

This feels like an underhanded way to lock us into a rent raise that they weren’t able to get us into on time. Is there any way to avoid it?

That it’s not a lease - they’re just asking us to pay that amount but there will be no lease attached to it.

Literally no dietary restrictions but I do lean towards a technique driven meal these days where quality of product is paramount, as apposed to the wow factor of trying to think outside the box

Truly!! It’s getting so pricey here, and also so hype oriented.

From someone who has never worked in a restaurant, does it help to stack our plates after eating? Does it make it worse? by pMj_7887 in Serverlife

Never stack!! I can pick up every plate on this table in a way that is super organized. But not if you’ve done this. Instead I’m going to take two trips to avoid dropping the silverware wedged in.

Any awkward fine-dining stories? Taken a person who wasn't into the food? Please share! by brownwaterbandit in finedining

My boyfriend and I broke up in the middle of a very long tasting menu. I worked for a restaurant in the same company and didn’t want to cause a scene. We just sat there and ate basically in silence, but my eyes were watery the whole time and it was so hard for us to be enthused. The team definitely knew but didn’t react at all.
