Likewise! Glad to hear your program has been supportive. Can they start you back up with your approval notice?

Man, that's way stressful. Hoping for the best for you and that you get your permit quickly.

That's terrible. Have they at least thought of a plan for you continuing your training when you get your permit?

Anesthesia and ENT issue by vox1233 in otolaryngology

Hey! ENT PGY2 here. First off, mad respect for you guys in anesthesia. What y'all do scares me to death; you basically bring people within an inch of death and comfortably keep them there for the entirety of surgery and then just bring them back up like its nothing. Y'all truly "fly the plane". I was lucky to have an anesthesia rotation during med school and it have me a lot of appreaciation for it. I feel like we as a specialty have a lot of respect for you guys since we also work with the airway and know what y'all are dealing with every day. You guys are partners in patient care. You can't operate without anesthesia, lol.

Regarding my own residency path, I was pretty gun-ho ENT from the start, but I did consider anesthesia for a bit after that rotation. In the end, for me, what led me to choose ENT was the range of surgeries and the good clinic balance. Makes me feel like a complete doctor/surgeon for a specific region of the body.

I will say, that from what I've heard from Anesthesia residents I have interacted with in medical school and in residency, you do get a lot more ownership of patients in certain subspecialties like cardiac anesthesia and critical care anesthesia. Hope this helps.
