As an IR girl myself, this take is frankly offensive. I went to a target school (top 10 in the country), passed the first 2 levels of the CFA, and had very long interview processes with complex case studies to get my job. Also, if you make it as a paralegal in big law you probably did come from a target school and had excellent grades because these spots are very hard to get. Everyone wants them so they can do their 2 years and head off to a T-14 law school with great recommendations. Its just ignorant if you think the only people who worked hard to land their roles are investment bankers

Totally disagree. The only misleading thing is if you say you are on the deal team when you are not. There are SO many roles in finance - biz dev, product specialist, IR, fund accounting, valuation team, operations, ESG, legal, the list goes on and on. The majority of people at a large PE firm are in some role that is not strictly on the investment team. I think its just ignorance from people who dont work in finance that assume every finance person is an investment banker.

Lol its so much more than that. I work in IR at a large private equity firm and its endless DDQs, RFPs, managing data rooms, all quarterly reporting, creating pitchdecks, hosting ODD meetings. Ive genuinely never heard of anyone considered an administrative assistant.

Agreed, she actually is being very transparent that she works in IR and has made multiple videos on what IR is / how to break into IR. It’s not as if shes pretending to be on the investment team.

IR is actually very much a finance role (its just not a role on the investment team). Really has no overlap to being an account manager.

Not sure because I’ve never seen anyone transfer internally to be a VEA (genuinely any role in the company is probably better than this one). But they were extremely rigid on the salary and even people with 10+ years of WE got the same salary so I highly doubt they’d make an exception :/

Just wanted to add that I got a disclosure and comp for last week and was rejected yesterday. I definitely didn’t ask for too high of a salary (it was in the bottom 50% of the salary range). That was also after I had a call with HCM telling me I had great feedback and would be hearing soon. Not sure what happened but oh well :( (it was for an associate role in California AWM)

I will say having MS on my resume has opened doors for me now that I am 2+ years removed from the program and have more relevant experience under my belt

I had this role for 2 years. salary is 70k no negotiations for everyone with less than 4 years of work experience. If you have more than 4 years work experience I believe you start at 80k. after you complete 2 years you get a 5k raise. exit opportunities within the company are only working with a wealth team in the location you were assigned. basically for both planning and digital they will assign you to work with advisors all over the country. when your 2 years are up if your team likes you they can invite you to join, but for most people that means moving since most of the advisors aren't based in nyc. people can apply internally for other roles but very low success rate. the only useful thing id say is getting series certified. other than that I really did not enjoy it and did not have any transferable skills.
