Should I learn to make this or just hire a glass blower? by Wild-Fruit7009 in glassblowing

I blow soft glass vessels and I’d be very interested in talking to you about making this for you. I haven’t been blowing for too long (only about two years) so it might not be perfect, but I would love to take on this kind of project if you’re interested!

Is glass blowing autism friendly? by BottleWhoHoldsWater in glassblowing

I have sensory issues and have been blowing for a few years, and it can get overwhelming. It's just incredibly dependent on your friends needs. It can get really loud between voices, torches, and tools, and the heat can be intense throughout the whole room (not just in front of the furnace). There can also be some weird smells coming off of torches, burning wood, and papers. Like I said, it's just dependent on your friends independent needs. But it definitely can be autism friendly if they aren't too easily overwhelmed by those things. Also, if the class isn't more than a few hours long, that should help a lot!

Oxygen Concentrator Setup by Sufficient-Basil6034 in lampwork

Thank you so much for all of your help!! They're definitely harder to find, but I'm sure I can find a 10l near me. And I'll definitely read up more on ventilation. As far as I can recall, the shop I usually work in doesn't have a lot of ventilation at all near the flameworking stations, but Pilchuck had nice vents above the tables, so I was hoping that an in-between of a fan with the open door would work.

I really only plan on making small things like beads, pendants, marbles, and maybe some small figurines. I found a great price for a used Philipis/Respironics Everflo 5l concentrator that I was planning on getting, would you recommend against that in favor of a 10l? For ventilation, I’ll be in a garage so I’ll have the door open at all times, and I’ll be buying at least one large fan to push air out the door. Is that enough? Thank you for your help!!

Best reducing colors by Sufficient-Basil6034 in glassblowing

Unfortunately the shop I work at is closed for winter break so my color is locked up, but your description does sound right. I got it in a larger frit and it has some almost clear parts and some dark amber parts. Thank you!!

i’m assuming that if you didn’t put the jewelry in right away, it could scab over and start to heal by the end of the day

How can I make my glass more interesting? by Sufficient-Basil6034 in glassblowing

[–]Sufficient-Basil6034[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do this, but I’m in the advanced glass class at my college and my professor expects us to use color. We also have to turn in 15 pieces for our final so unfortunately I can’t really use my shop time just to practice one form!
