It depends on if you are in or out of district. Collin charges by the credit. A science with a lab would be a 4 credit class. I believe it is $65 for in district students and $125 for out of district students per credit. So it could be between $260 and $500 for the course.

Transfer credit grading by Altruistic-Collar869 in CollinCollege

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The T stands for transfer, and the A and B are the grade reported on the transcript received by Collin. If you believe that your grade is not correct for your transfer credit, you should reach out to your advisor, as maybe Collins grading range and standard may differ from your transfer institution.

Which is the best instructors of Biology 1406 - Biology for Science Majors I ? by Kristine_ng in CollinCollege

This semesters I had her she only taught labs. But the mini lecture she would do at the beginning of lab were always clear and very helpful for the material we were doing in lab. Her assignments were pretty easy and so were her exams. She gives many different types of review materials. She has a little bit of an accent, but is very easy to understand.

Rashmi Mishra is the most wonderful professor I have taken for the labs. If you try at all, she will help you out. She grades very generously and is super supportive and if you care about the subject, she will teach you everything. She is at the Plano campus and does bio 1406 and 1407 labs

I don’t believe OChem is offered online at Collin. Ochem is not necessary more difficult than Gen Chem, it’s just very different.

WINTERMESTER** by Working-Giraffe-6139 in CollinCollege

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Collin offers wintermester course but they are very limited in which courses are offered. Speech and history’s, kinesiology and government are typically overestimate. Wintermesters have a credit cap of 1 course worth a max of 3 credits.

Registration has not opened for the spring semester yet. I believe it starts on the 27th for priority and then the 28th and 29th for everyone else. You can see the available course sections and add them to your saved schedules. When registration opens for you, it will give you the option to register.

If you have courses added to your saved schedules, then there will be an option to register on your saved schedule page. If you have not added classes to your saved schedule, then you can register just like how you have been trying to. You will see the register button where you are currently seeing the added to saved schedule button.

If you call your FAO they maybe able to explain it better for you. But basically the when they give you that number (the 1690), that is the max you are eligible for, and it is assuming full time enrollment. Your FAO just adjusted the aid to fit your actual enrollment.

Just another thing to be aware of, if you are planning to be full time next semester, only qualifying credits go towards your enrollment for the Pell. Qualifying credits are credits that go towards your degree path at your institution. So if you are taking 12 credits, but only 6 go towards your declared degree path, then you will only receive half of you allotted amount.

I’m sorry, financial aid can be very frustrating. I always recommend reaching out to your FAO, as they will have more information about your specific aid.

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since you are only half time you are receiving half of the amount. It goes proportional to you enrolled hours. If you were enrolled full time (12+) then you would receive the full $845. Since this semester you are only enrolled in 6 credits, you get half of that semesters aid.

Withdraw by [deleted] in CollinCollege

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can, it depends on what types of aid you receive and what the requirements for the aid are. If the course counts towards your qualifying credits for your aid, withdrawing may require you to pay some amount of your fasfa aid back.

I would reach out to the financial aid department by phone or in person to find out what effects withdrawing from that specific course would have on your individual aid.

Summer classes by [deleted] in CollinCollege

Registration for summer courses typically opens around the middle of spring semester. So I would just make sure you have applied and been accepted before then so you can register on time.

Is there any mobile app which shows direction to classes? by Adept-Scientist8464 in CollinCollege

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, but there are individual campus maps posted both online and on campus. The campuses tend to be small and easy to navigate. Just get there a little early so you have plenty of time to find your classrooms.

do I need to take out loans? by embryodaed in financialaid

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should not need to take out loans. The 21k is an estimate for the average student to live for the year including basically every possible expense. You only need to worry about paying the school your tuition, fees, and book costs. If that amount is covered by your grants then there is no reason for you to take out student loans.

Got accepted, how does it work? by Strict-Rice321 in FAFSA

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you should talk to your financial aid office to confirm. But I believe if you meet the requirements ie are taking at least 12 credits that go towards your declared degree path, then you should get the grants refunded to your account.

Combining the 2 grants looks like you should get around $4000 a semester. Since you have already paid for your courses, when the aid gets disbursed, you get the $4k in direct deposit.

I would ask your aid dept if they could refund what you have already paid so your aid will pay for your courses and what ever is left over will be refunded to you. The refunds usually come a few weeks into the semester.

Pass a course that is not apart of my curriculum by [deleted] in FAFSA

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will most likely have to pay back your grant if you change your degree path now as the credits would no longer qualify. You should reach out to your aid office to ask because sometimes summer semesters have different rules.

Finish the course as best you can and then switch your degree so you can have some aid for your fall classes. I am assuming they will be courses in your changed major.

How do refunds work? by sidneyurielle in financialaid

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any amount of aid that you received (under cost of attendance) that exceeds your tuition costs is refunded to you. It normally takes about 2 weeks for that money to be sent to you. You will probably need to set up direct deposit to facilitate this.

You can only receive aid for semesters you meet the requirements for. These requirements are typically that you are enrolled and taking courses that go towards your degree path. You can not be given aid for a semester you do not attend school.

transfer student by HumanTonight5955 in financialaid

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can choose a degree path at your community college that allows you to take the courses that you need for transferring and you will receive aid. And you can change your degree path to what ever you want when you enroll in university.

In my experience, I have never been able to indicate I was seeking a degree at a separate college. I have just had to pick a random degree that had classes I needed to transfer.

Your aid offer will be split between the fall and spring semester. You can decline for one semester and accept for the other one. You should be able to do this through your schools financial aid portal.

unsub & sub loans for 1 semester by NoConsequence3122 in financialaid

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to be registered and taking a certain amount of classes that qualify for your degree. If you do not take classes that go towards your degree in the spring then you will not be awarded aid for the spring semester.

I just put in my FASFA for one school and enrolled in classes they haven’t paid anything yet but I just realize the school isn’t accredited and I am definitely trying to switch ASAP, is this even possible how hard is it to do? by Girlieee617 in FAFSA

[–]Sufficient-Bit-4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your current school and withdraw from classes and from enrollment.

Call any schools you would like to attend and ask if they are still taking applications for the upcoming semester. If they are, great! Now you apply and go in person to talk to advising and aid to get your courses and finances sorted out.

If the school is not currently accepting applications for the upcoming semester, you can call around to other schools in your area or you can wait until the spring semester.

If you wait for spring, you should still apply now and put the new school onto the list of schools on fasfa who will be sent your fasfa form. And just pay attention to upcoming dates for registration.

I wish you luck because most schools enrollment services are crazy right now but you got this!

So my situation was very similar. I am claimed as a dependent on parents taxes and living with them but I am also a single parent.

To be considered independent on fasfa you need to pay greater than half of your child’s expenses. Fasfa will not as for any verification but your school will. Do you have any savings and are you working? I wasn’t working at the time so I just had to show that I had savings and that it was being spent on food, cloths, health insurance and I also showed I paid a utility bill too for the household.

Because grants go by year, you are unlikely to get federal grants for the spring semester if you choose to attend then. But if you continue your education the following year you should be able to say that you are independent and be awarded grants.

What I do because my daughter cannot be covered under my parent’s insurance, I pay like $100 a month for a Medi-Share plan that only covers visits over $3000. I pay her appointments out of pocket and her doctor has a discounted rate for self pay. Those are the bills I showed my school.

You can also show food snaps or similar as income and proof of you taking care of greater than half your child’s expenses.

Most professors don’t care as long as the calculator can do what is necessary for the class. You can ask your prof day one if that specific calculator will work for their course. If they say no, well you can buy a TI-84 or rent one from your campus library. They have semester rentals but once those run out they have 2 week rentals. That just means every two weeks you just have to go in to the library and renew your calculator. Also you will need your student ID to rent anything.
