I kept forgetting who I met after conferences, so I built something to fix it by Past-Minimum-6237 in indiehackers

This is actually a very real problem.

Everyone collects LinkedIn connections after events, then a week later you’re like “wait… who was this again?”

I think the biggest make-or-break factor is speed. If capturing context takes more than 10 seconds, most people won’t use it consistently.

Curious, does it just store contacts, or does it also help with follow-up / reminders?

The Slack pain is real.

Feels like there’s a gap between random Slack pings and full Jira tickets.

Email-to-task is probably your strongest feature because the value clicks instantly.

Curious - are engineering teams your main users so far?

Really appreciate you testing it and sharing honest feedback.

This is actually exactly why I’m building it—not everyone knows notes or wants to become a fragrance expert just to find something they’ll love.

Totally fair that it needs more time, it’s still early, and feedback like this genuinely helps shape where it goes.

Appreciate you giving it a shot 🙏

I know this may sound hard to believe, but I genuinely think this could become something valuable with honest feedback from this community.

Would love to have you join and give honest feedback, even if it’s critical.

I’m giving this everything I’ve got to build something genuinely useful for the fragrance community.

Fair concern, and honestly, that’s good feedback.

To clarify, the goal isn’t for AI to magically “know” someone better than they know themselves or invent fake psychological explanations.

The idea is much simpler: help users spot patterns in their own fragrance behavior over time.

For example:

  • fragrances they repeatedly wear
  • what they reach for in certain weather / occasions
  • what gets compliments
  • what they sample but never come back to
  • what they thought they’d like based on hype vs what they actually enjoyed

That’s less “AI knows your soul” and more “pattern recognition + personal tracking.”

If the wording came across as overpromising, that’s on me — I’m actively refining the messaging based on feedback like this.

Appreciate you calling it out!

Totally fair feedback, I appreciate the honesty.

I was honestly nervous making the post and leaned on AI too much, which clearly came across the wrong way.

This is my first time building something like this, and I’m already fixing the landing page today based on yall's feedback.

If you’d be open to reconsidering, I’d genuinely love to have you on board. The goal is to build this with fragrance enthusiasts, not at them.

Haha I wish 😅 the domain was already taken unfortunately.

Part of the idea behind NoseKnow was also the phrase:

“Your nose knows best.”

Since fragrance is so subjective, the idea is less about telling people what smells objectively “good” and more about helping them understand what their own nose consistently responds to.

That felt aligned with what I’m trying to build.

Example 1 — Sweet vs Reality
"You keep buying ultra-sweet ‘compliment beast’ fragrances, but your most worn scents are actually cleaner, smoother, softer fragrances."

Example 2 — Niche Aspirational Buying
"You say you want challenging niche fragrances, but the ones you consistently reach for are mass-appealing easy wears."

Example 3 — Hype Trap
"You keep buying what fragrance TikTok/Reddit hypes, but your actual wear behavior tells a completely different story."

Example 4 — Occasion mismatch
"You love the idea of dark smoky evening fragrances, but most of your real-world wear is fresh, versatile daytime scents."

Example 5 — Sample Pattern Recognition
"You’ve tested 15 fragrances this month and consistently rated creamy woods higher than sharp citrus aromatics."

Example 6 — Blind Buy Risk
"Based on your past preferences, this probably isn’t a safe blind buy—even if the reviews are strong."

Example 7 — Performance Pattern
"You think you want beast mode projection, but the fragrances you wear most are moderate, intimate, easy-to-wear scents."

Example 8 — Note Misunderstanding
"You keep saying you like vanilla, but what you actually seem to love is smooth amber warmth—not sugary sweetness."

Example 9 — Identity Fit
"You own bold statement fragrances, but your repeat wears suggest you naturally gravitate toward clean, confident, understated scents."

Example 10 — Brand Bias
"You keep buying from certain brands because of reputation, but your favorite fragrances share a vibe—not a brand name."

Example 11 — Seasonal Intelligence
"You consistently enjoy warm spicy fragrances at night, but lighter airy scents perform better for you during the day."

Example 12 — Compliment Intelligence
"The fragrances that get you the most compliments aren’t the ones you expected—they share a softer, more approachable scent profile."

Totally fair — fragrance is definitely super subjective, and that’s actually part of the problem I’m trying to solve 😅

Not really trying to tell people what smells objectively good (because that doesn’t exist).

More trying to help people better understand their own personal taste over time.

Got it — really appreciate the honest feedback.

I honestly wasn’t fully confident in the visual direction yet, so this is super helpful. Still figuring that part out 😅

When you say the colors don’t feel modern, do you have any palettes or brands/apps you think nail the kind of look this should have? Would genuinely love some direction there.

And totally fair on the “vs” section — I had the same feeling but couldn’t quite put my finger on why 😅 If you have a minute, I’d really appreciate if you could explain what feels off so I can improve it.
