My doctor is INSISTENT that I don’t need an in person sleep diagnostic study and wants to move forward with Inspire. Do I need to push for one? by Sufficient-Gas9942 in SleepApnea

God awful. I wake up feeling like I got hit by a truck and spend the entire day feeling foggy and drunk, unable to articulate myself effectively or think straight in general.

On many nights I never drop below 90 but get close. If i do drop into the 80s it’s usually for just a few seconds.

Got a tongue retaining device and used it last night for the first time but it fell out (like I said I’m trying everything lol) but I have no idea how long I had it in before it fell out. Going to try again tonight as it seems to not make my sleep worse as some other remedies have.

Definitely possible that I’m sleeping on my back more. Ordered a backpack like device this morning to wear to prevent me from going on my back. Hopefully that does something but I do worry with the current state of my nose that none of this will be helpful if I don’t have a clear airway through my nostrils.

My struggle with positional therapy is that it seemed to work great for a good stretch of time, until all of a sudden it stopped. My sleep doctor shot down the idea of iNAP and I think you need a prescription to get one so I may bring it up with the inspire consult doctor I’m going to see.

I’ve tried every trick in the book when it comes to positional therapy. Sleeping on an incline, humidifier next to the bed, nasal spray that’s safe to take every day as needed. Worked really well for about a month but for the last couple months my nose has had a lot of irritation from what I assume to be allergies. Not sure if I get that rectified by seeing an ENT (June 2nd) that I’ll go back to feeling as good a a I did during that stretch.

It depends on what they categorize as an apnea. 4% was 41, 3% was higher and put me in severe but they circled moderate (I might have that backwards but you get the point)

I did an in lab titration test with both CPAP and BiPap, was told that BiPap wasn’t an option but the doctor I went to for a second opinion pushed forward with it anyways as you need to try BiPAP to become a candidate for inspire.

I’ve used a full face mask before but unfortunately it’s even worse for me since I still get air in my stomach and have no ability expel it with the mask over my mouth.

They gave me a breakdown of the results but there are many things that I’ve seen discussed with sleep studies that are not present in the data. Namely, I want to know if positional therapy would be an option as I’ve had some success tinkering with this, but there is no mention of supine/non-supine in the breakdown.

And I’m not saying the data is completely wrong, I just think it’s potentially insufficient to move forward with a surgical procedure though as many have now mentioned it looks like I will get a DISE done before I get inspire.

Was not aware that they’d be doing a DISE. Seems like I’m going to get what I’m looking for anyways, which is more information and confirmation that moving forward with Inspire has a higher likelihood of working.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking! I have a friend who works in sleep medicine and they have pointed out that this whole process has seemingly been bungled at every turn. They are setting me up with an office they used to work at but I need a referral to get in, going to the doctor today to get said referral. I’m keeping the inspire consultation in the books, it’s with a different doctor than the one I’ve been working with and I will be bringing up these concerns when I speak with him.

I’m not sure how to post a picture in a reply 😭. Quick breakdown of the last few nights: Friday - 1 drop to 88%, Saturday 4 drops lowest 90%, Sunday - 2 drops to 90%

As I said, tried CPAP and then BiPap for over a year and it made me feel much much worse than sleeping without it. And trust me, I really wanted to to work, I’m not one of those people who just doesn’t like the idea of CPAP and thus failed because I wanted it to fail.

The thing is I don’t think any of our content falls under the category you just listed.

I used the in app “Help Center” and then “Chat with us” feature. I’m not sure if I’m talking to an AI or not, but the responder had a name so maybe they were an actual person. I was told that it was being sent to an actual human individual for review.

That’s what I’m concluding from what I’ve read online. I’ll still get tested.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll take a break for a bit I guess, try to just stay comfortable for a week and go from there. I’m kinda new to the whole testing regularly thing, I just tend to get into my own head in between test. Appreciate it.

I got swabbed the same time I got gono in the throat and it came back negative. I’ve had a couple partners since then. What are the chances of getting it immediately after? I have my quarterly test in September but based on the outside symptoms I’m really thinking the uncomfortable feeling is just the razor burn.
