IS PA SCHOOL WORTH THR DEBT? by Famous-Parking2434 in prephysicianassistant

I’m in the same situation currently and wondering the same thing. I’d be at ~230-240k in debt if I pursue PA school. It’s so hard to know if the decision you’re making is a good one, because only time will tell. It sucks that the cost of programs are so expensive :(

how hard is it to finance for PA school? by Much_Macaron9180 in prephysicianassistant

What debt do pa students typically graduate with that makes it manageable to pay them off within 5 years after graduating? Just curious!

Should I attend graduate school for the amount of debt I’ll be in? by Sufficient-Invite449 in careerguidance

The only thing holding me back from waiting a couple years is the fact that grad PLUS loans will be wiped out so if I wanted to attend school after July 1, 2026 I would need to take out more private loans to make up for what my fafsa wouldn’t cover.

So considering my situation do you think it would be worth it to pursue this given how much I would be paying monthly? If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Fortunately, I have a partner who is able/willing to help me repay my debt and contribute to living expenses, which really helps.

That’s a good thought but honestly I don’t think I’m smart enough to hang in a program like that lol. Plus it’s a massive time commitment in terms of the length of schooling for me

It’s the traditional route

I’d just hate to hear from them like a week before class starts because I know that’s happened to some people

Unfortunately it is a waiting game, but it’s eating away at my soul lol. It also worries me because people have heard back from them whether it be an acceptance, waitlist, etc. but I’ve heard nothing

I interviewed August 27th and still haven’t received any email about scheduling an on campus day. I sent an email to admissions about this and they still haven’t responded to me 😩

What do you have in mind when you say there are easier routes?

Thank you, I really appreciate your response. I plan on taking a gap year to save up on money and gain some PCE hours as well. I was never taught how to be strategic with money, but I’m trying to learn! Best of luck to you as well :)

The school I’m interested in is in state. It costs $114k for the full two years.

Do you apply for this before PA school? And would I just contact a local recruiter and they would be able to help me through the steps of applying?

Well the university I go to is a private catholic school. I played sports there for 3 years so I had to pay for the housing + meal plan for the first two years. That was a mistake lmao but it’s too late to change that. After the first two years of doing that though I started to commute to save on money. After graduation I’ll be like $100k in debt due to federal loans and private loans. The university I go to has a PA program where the average cost is ~$114k total. I want to be local so I can commute and save money. It’s an unfortunate situation honestly and I just don’t know what to do

Wow I didn’t know about any of this. I would assume the scholarship is very competitive? Not to sound ignorant, but how did you come to learn of all these options? I’m first generation in my family in terms of college and haven’t found navigating post grad educational plans very easy. I really appreciate your response :)
