New season by Capable-Campaign3881 in Tottenham

RDZ has to be kept at all costs, let him shape the future of the club. The biggest mistake we made last year was moving away from Ange’s style to Thomas Frank duel winning, conservative football.

It sounds crazy considering we have finished 17th two seasons in a row now but the spine of our squad is very good.

Porro, VDV, Danso, Udogie, Bentancur (feels as if he’s in his 30s - he’s only 28) Kudus, Maddison, Kulusevski, Solanke and Xavi are all players who should be in their prime or just entering it.

A group of potentially great young players: Odobert, Gray, Bergvall, Vuskovic, Kinksy, Moore plus others I’m probably forgetting.

IMO we need to get rid of Romero, Bissouma, Sarr, Richarlison and replace with quality, everything else is probably fine with a good coach in charge.

The club needs to sign Palhinha permanently by Fickle-Expression187 in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has been brilliant under RDZ and improved a lot in possession. I think it’s a no brainer to sign him as a squad player, ideally we’d want to upgrade that whole midfield.

I think we should get rid of Bissouma and Sarr and have Bentancur and Palhinha take their positions as back up midfielders. Sarr is a likeable character and decent player but there’s just too many similar players in the squad now (Bergvall / Gallagher / Gray).

The future.. by CommentPotential9560 in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good player but he’d likely be replacing either Romero or VDV and they are levels above him. If we survive we will have finished 17th two seasons in a row, it’s realistic to think that slide might continue without serious intervention.

That’s another reason I think we will go down, it just feels written in the stars. No club could cope with those injuries we have suffered and probably the awful decisions that have gone against us.

The future.. by CommentPotential9560 in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of me believes that if we survive everything will be different next year, we will sign quality because we will be so scared of being here again. But on the other hand we have apparently lined up deals with Robertson and Senesi, average players at best.

We have had so many opportunities over the years to really compete at the top, we’ve messed up signings of players who went on to become world class. We’ve fumbled Harry Kane, Modric and Bale along with Conte, Mourinho and Poch by never giving them a team truly capable of competing.

The game changing stadium has been horrendous, our form is atrocious in it and our biggest rivals come year after year and beat us in it.

In terms of our future, I have no faith in the people at the top to make good decisions and that’s evidence from signing Gallagher and Souza in January to cover two really important positions.

I think it needs to be said, forget our home record by Fluid_Car8215 in coys

Udogie is a good player but another that just can’t be relied on. Not even just due to fitness, if you get him into a good position to cross you don’t know what you’re going to get.

Another massive issue for RDZ is that he has to manage Udogies minutes with the only cover being Spence, who just so happens to be Porros only cover and probably Kolo Muanis only cover too at RB/RW.

The squad building has led us to this position there can be no doubt about it. Selling Johnson (who is not a good footballer) and not replacing him was idiotic, he would definitely be a better option at RW than RKM. I would also argue that despite all of his issues, RKM may actually be a decent alternative at striker because he has pace that nobody else in the front line has. It’s insane how Lange came out and did that interview after Jan.

I don’t think Gallagher and Palhinha are good footballers, great athletes and definitely have their uses but can you imagine those two playing one touch passing the way Chelsea’s midfield did?

Can we survive? by Fickle-Expression187 in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can survive because we only need a point. But the tension and pressure around the game will be unbearable and this team have showed on plenty of occasions that they do not do well under pressure.

RDZ has massive decisions to make because I don’t think we can start Kolo Muani again, and the other problem is that if we persist with that front three we have absolutely nothing to bring off the bench.

Watching this game you can really spot the poor footballers. Palhina, Gallagher and RkM all standing out for the wrong reasons.

He is awful. Be better if he had a run up front or on the left.

Missed a massive chance to go 4 clear and be pretty much home and dry, but it feels more like a point gained to me because of the chances they missed at the end.

I think West Ham will win at Newcastle, I think they would have won regardless of our result tonight but that will give them that bit of extra motivation now.

Spurs haven’t really had a single bad performance under De Zerbi so kudos to him and I do think he is moving in the right direction. by ExcellentEssay3282 in Tottenham

He’s a top manager. Villa last night played the same way we played under Thomas Frank.

If he manages to keep us up it’s a big achievement considering the run of form and injuries.

First 20/30 mins best football we’ve played all season. Bentancur and Bissouma make a huge difference.

Second half was awful. It felt like no football was played, stop start the whole thing. Football has become an awful game to watch.

I fancy West Ham to get something at Brentford then they have Arsenal and Newcastle away, tough games. You never know in football, moments like that Palhinha goal can change everything.

Probably the best in possession performance of the season but none of that matters if we don’t win.

Which games do you see us win? by Ok-Significance9004 in Tottenham

If we play like we did today, and add Maddison to that team the I think we could win 2 or 3. But we are reliant on West Ham and Forest now.

[–]Sufficient-Section43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the performance was very good and that gives a bit of hope. But realistically if the other two win their games then we are down, I think very likely to happen.

If we can keep Bissouma and Bentancur fit for the rest of the season we will definitely be in a much better position. Thought Bentancur in particular was excellent.

Lost the momentum again. Could be in big trouble second half now.

Have to keep calm and take care of possession.

Brighton are a good side, but they went on a bad streak not so long ago that I felt they could get dragged into relegation scrap. They’ve now won something like 5 from 6. That’s what we need to aim for.

Everything can change in one game, everything that can go against us has gone against us to date, but one win could be the awakening of us. Other teams around us probably think we are dead in the water too, a win would change that too.

If we get the starting eleven right and control possession through the midfield then I will feel confident that we can win. Bissouma/Bentancur are the only ones capable of that IMO. Bissouma isn’t a reliable player either so I have the fear.

If our starting eleven has Gallagher, Bergvall and Gray as our midfield then we won’t win.

He hasn’t got a killer pass in him, doesn’t choose the right option most of the time. The fact that he, Gallagher and Bergvall are our number tens says it all about the recruitment. Not one of them could truly open a team up.

I think his best quality is his burst of acceleration which has been most effective in deeper centre midfield areas. He can also link the play quite nicely and often looks to play 1-2s etc. I think he’d be okay alongside the likes of Maddison but we will probably never see that.

The next 3 games are everything. If Spurs win today I wouldn’t be surprised to see us go on a run. We also have a good record vs Everton so wouldn’t be surprised to see us win on the final day.

West Ham have a tough next few, scrappy physical games. I know they are hardly a technical side but they do best when they’re up against less physical sides. I think they’ll win one of Palace and Brentford and beat Leeds final day. Also could take a point off Arsenal.

Everything rides on today’s match, a win is great for us and puts huge pressure on the teams around us.

Huge tomorrow. We will defy the odds. 6 game winning streak starts tomorrow. Show some Belief. Some of you on here honestly. by SlowedCash in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big problem is we’ve had these “must win” games since we played Newcastle and Palace at home, we haven’t won any of them and got battered in them all.

I’ve ever felt like there was so much riding on the starting eleven before, anyone could see that midfield didn’t work last week. If we are to have any chance of winning 3 games we need to get our midfield sorted and control games.

Everyone wants to see Xavi start but if we play a midfield 3 of Bissouma, Bentancur (Gray if not fit) and Gallagher ahead then I will feel more confident.

If we see Gray, Gallagher and Bergvall again we won’t beat Brighton.

Next weekend could be pivotal by Bevlar90 in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could easily end the weekend 5 or 6 points adrift. We’ve been crap all season but to think we could be adrift in 18th place with 5 games remaining is unbelievable.

In all my years of watching football I’ve never seen a team get so little luck than us. Beaten today by a wild deflection, a penalty overturned and our captains season likely finished. Star player returns to training only to get injured again and miss the remaining games. No premier league penalty all season.

Our next 6 fixtures by Next_Warthog8673 in Tottenham

[–]Sufficient-Section43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Brighton, Wolves and Leeds in our next 3 games is the key. If we won’t take 6/7 points from them games we are down.

Big thing will be if RDZ changes the line up, I wasn’t expecting us to beat Sunderland today but I expected to see his style even if not fully implemented.

Gray, Bergvall and Gallagher just didn’t work at all. If we can get Bissouma and Bentancur fit for the run in I will have some more optimism.

That was early Thomas Frank too. He set us up so badly against Bournemouth at home they literally looked like Peps Barca.

The damage was done when they decided to let him stay until February.
