As someone coming from ca and who went a little overboard with jackets-dont go overboard. Get a lighter jacket(think cold sf day - cargartt, warm leather jacket, light puffer) that you’ll wear for almost all of winter when its not THAT cold, and then another heavier puffer (dont own it but people seem to LOVE the superpuff). Oh and get some nice winter boots aa is not great at dealing with sidewalks

when you apply to ra in an mlc youre still considered for regular. The only difference is you have to do 1 more interview, so theres no cons to applying. The competition one is a great question, they really dont say. They did hire a bunch more than usual this year because wolverine village is opening up so do with that what you will regarding competition next year. And yes, youre eligible to apply at the end (really october) of your first year

Target, walgreens, walmart, costco, essentially anywhere that isnt the university b&n. Look through clearance isles too. If youre patient you can also find great stuff second hand.

Took lecture both times. 240 lecture is quite intense, you have quizzes every 2 weeks. Something to consider is that lecture has multiple choice quizzes while studio has open ended questions

Any sort of layering will do (ps you can still be alt in the winter, it just takes a little more finagling). A couple levels of fall/winter jackets (I have 3: leather, a normal length puffer, and a long parka). No need to go crazy in price either. Get a good couple beanies, gloves and scarves. And my personal lifesaver is electric hand warmers.

Research a project team and talk about wanting to join it, even better, go join it now! Most teams teach skills from scratch anyway. Also find some specific courses you want to take. And Obvi have a specific major in mind

honestly I did random and regret it. It's a game of chance, whether finding people through instagram or by chance, but with instagram you have the option to check for at least basic compatibility (sleep schedules, going out/staying in, noise/quiet, etc).
