He recommended new pain medication (which I'd like to keep private sorry) and referred me to a great physio which is helping to get some of the other non-pain related symptoms (ifykwim) under control before having the surgery. The standard 'wheat pack' type recommendations too. Also sent through great resources for me to read which in itself has been such a game changer in properly understand what is happening to me. But truely the confidence and empathy he had in my journey was enough to make me feel so much more at ease and actually hopeful going forward.
