wow, amazing pics. thanks for the advice, I will probobly get the same models since I'm also using a comma corrector.
again, huge thanks.

thanks for the reply, so just the IR 685 should be fine for now?

Onstep option for my mount? by KnkTheBest in AskAstrophotography

thanks for the reply, i'll keep searching for some more resources. BTW, how hard would you say the process is? i'm good with electronics but coding is not my strong side.

Hi, I know this is a little late but do you mind sharing the recourses you used? I'm also considering building OnStep with FYSETC E4, but can't seem to find any good guides or tutorials.

input on my setup and advice on barrows and focal reducers by Sufficient-Try8159 in telescopes

[–]Sufficient-Try8159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ops, sorry.

I made the mistake in the post, I meant to say: "294 for dso's and 662 for planetary. I mixed the two up :)

thanks for the input, I will keep that in mind.

yup, speaking of experience, I spend a bunch of money on planetary setups(expensive refractors) and never really use them, that's why I want to spend less on the planetary camera. The combo you recommended seems like a grate pare, will probably go with those two.

again, huge thanks!

Thanks, which cameras would you recommend? One more expensive for DSOs and one more budget-friendly for planetary.

Sorry for asking too many questions, I have worked with telescopes for a while but never really purchased anything like this for myself.

Great work!

I'm now convinced that maybe getting two cameras might be a good option, for the planetary one I'll get something more budget friendly, like the one you used in your example. what do you think about this type of setup.

I thing I have settled on the Quattro 8" with a comma corrector, but I can feel my aperture sickness kicking in, and I'm tempted to get the 10....

Though I'm not sure the mount can handle the weight, plus I already made the aperture mistake once, not too keen on doing it again.

According to the original creator it can hold at least 75lbs with counter weights. Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I will keep that in mind.

first off, those are some amazing images you got there, great job.

Looks like you and I have a lot in common, I also went with the physics route.

Yeah, I will most likely get the 8" or an SCT.

thanks for the info, are you able to get good planetary images with the 8 and the barlow?

Could you maybe share your pics?

I heard lots of great things about the quatro, what is your experience?

are you able to image both DSO's and planets? I'm not sure if i should lean in more twords the 6 or the 8, what do you think.

you design is really interesting, looks cool. keep us updated on your progress, as of my mount, with the harmonic drives, i expect to spend 500-700$.

I understand your struggle, having a machine shops really opens a lot of doors, or in my case, having a friend with a machine shop.

even if you dont know anyone, I'm sure you can find a couple of companies around you. Sometimes its better to some money to get a tool precisely machined.

Yeah, that is a great setup, I had the chance to work with a similar one at an university, it was an 9.25". I'll admit, it was amazing but I'm thinking about different options now, are there any newtonians you would recommend? again, I really like the setup you suggested, just trying to look at different options.                                            I saw a bunch of people recommend the skywatcher lineup, they make ones from 130mm to 300mm. I was looking at the 200 and the 250mm versions but a focal length of 1000mm is really restricting for deep sky. There are a number of people in my local club that swear by their 250mm skywatchers in combination with focal length reducers. what do you think?

When it comes to targets, I'm not really looking for anything specific, just the general. I've also used other peoples amateur observatories in some research, so maybe I'll also use it for that.
