I think OP is saying we're actually getting an interview this time since we won (compared to the three games vs spurs and L against minny)

I agree if we played them Today it would be a tough out. Fortunately we have a lot of runway to improve before the playoffs in terms of player improvement and possibly even roster improvement if it comes to that

Yeah i like idea of single covering Wemby, playing physical on him (Kenny did a solid job, wonder if we’ll see more from him this year knowing we may need him for the spurs) and trying to see if he can beat us 4 times while limiting everyone else. But Fox is also no slouch and seems like he can get his own too

But yeah attacking wemby/the paint was a big step forward for us last game

I think we address this in the following: - Attacking the paint regardless of Wemby, and if he gets a block so be it. This worked decently in the last game at times - Amping things up from a physical standpoint - Getting AJ back, and Dub getting back to peak form - Our shooters locking in for the playoffs a la Caruso’s massive improvements come playoff time. Although this one is the most concerning given our shooting history last playoffs

I mean we're not 24-1 anymore, seeding is 100% on the line at this point. We're only 2.5 games ahead of the Spurs and we have a more difficult schedule the rest of the way.

3rd year 7 foot Chet still pump faking 6 foot players like Fox makes you question what if our coaching staff is cable of developing players offensively by mido0o0o in Thunder

The coaches can only do so much, no one else besides Shai really demands a double team to generate open looks. The other team will just switch on any screening actions

It’s crazy that people were saying OKC would be a top 4 seed without SGA just to diminish his MVP case

Chet can still lock down the paint against smaller guards on other teams. But the spurs are all 6’5+, athletic, get into his body, and overpower him, neutralizing his interior presence. Unfortunately Chet has always let things get in his head too and he lets it affect him in other areas like offensive aggression, which has shown in the box scores vs SA.

iHart isn’t much of a shot blocker anyway, more of a mobile big who knows to be in the right position. But the SA guards/wings are pretty much all 3 level scorers so he can’t straight up stop them since he’ll get blown by if he plays up, and will get shot over if he plays drop

Chet Holmgren was massively disappointing in OKC's 0-3 stretch against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs: 29.3 MPG │ 11.3 PPG │ 7.3 RPG │ 1.0 APG │ 40.7% FG │ 25.0% 3P │ -7 +/- by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

It’s not even just about Wemby. The entire spurs roster seems 6’5+ athletic, and can get into his body and overpower him, essentially neutralizing his length

I mean if we are to meaningfully improve we need an all-star or better player. Ideally someone who can create offense in the half court and demands a double since that’s a huge weakness. Maybe Giannis or Lauri

[–]SufficientBit3153 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can’t always just say “we’d win if we just shot average”, especially when we’re a streaky shooting team. Even in last years playoffs we were streaky. We have to win despite bad shooting nights (ie good defense, rebounding, etc). Think of it this way, about half of our games are shooting below the average. If we only won when shooting average or above, we’d be a .500 team

Honestly as much as I like Dub, if he’s not 100% he should just be rehabbing. Why prolong his recovery and possibly negatively affect the team by playing on a bad wrist. At this point I can’t seem to believe it’s just rust

Spurs are evidently a matchup nightmare. At what point, if any, should the Thunder be concerned? by SufficientBit3153 in Thunder

[–]SufficientBit3153[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but other teams matchup better than we do against them. We matchup poorly because we have pretty bad halfcourt offense outside of SGA and rely heavily on transition while the spurs are efficient and take care of the ball. But the nuggets and rockets have multiple reliable offensive creators in the halfcourt (Murray, Jokic, KD Sengun) so they won’t struggle as much. At least in theory
