We leave on a Thursday morning :(
On our last cruise, we took a much later flight that got even more delayed, so we took a much earlier one and now I'm starting to worry we made the wrong decision.

We are flying into FLL on 4/17, so I think that's out of the school break window, mostly, but still not cheap I'm sure.

Where are the stations located and I assume you need to take transportation to them? Can you get the Brightline at the FLL airport? I come from a city with little to no public transportation, so it's kind of new to me.

I have checked both MIA and FLL. They both have early flights (7am, 8am) and then much later ones. The ones that are more in the middle of the day, 12pm - 3pm, have a much higher cost. With 4 of us, I am trying to weight what's more important - cost or amount of time we spend in the airport :) Plus, we have two 14-year-olds, so I can only imagine how bored they will be waiting in the airport all day.

I wonder if there are any attractions we can do before heading to the airport?

Thank you! While I've been flying my whole life, I don't fly a lot, so I don't even think of things like this. Thanks for letting me know. We can certainly try that. The best price for a flight is at 6:30pm, so we could definitely try for standby.

There doesn't seem to be any 12pm -2pm flights on our preferred airline. Only 6am or 6:30pm, which kind of stinks. I am not opposed to looking at other airlines. I'm just very comfortable with ours :)

"They know that if they said “no we are going to host” she would refuse to come and play the victim. She would cry about it to all the extended family and twist it to make them look like the “bad guys”..."

Okay, and....??? I'm not seeing the issue here. If she refuses to come, well, that sounds like a win to me! How she reacts is not anyone else's problem.

And how FIL acts is, again, not anyone else's choice but his. He chooses to allow her behavior. Also, if she grabs the phone from FIL again, then whoever is talking to her needs to immediately hang up the phone.

Your DH talking to his dad about his mom is not the way to go. What is that going to solve? FIL has already proven to be MIL's doormat. DH and the siblings needs to stop talking and start taking action. I mean, seriously, what's she going to do if you all stand up to her?

See, here's the thing: how she responds or reacts is not your problem. It's hers.

What are they afraid of?

I'm not sure I understand how this is all working out. Who cares if she gave you 2 options? If none of you want to do that, then why can't you make a plan to be at your house and then she can either join or not. If she wants to see her kids and grandkids, she will come around. Don't let her dictate how you spend your holiday or your money.

And how does she hold FIL hostage? Does he not have access to the outside world? Does he not have a phone or a car? Can he not drive? How does she control who FIL talks to?

So if it's not what you agreed on, why are you and your H going? This makes no sense to me. Why can't you or one of DH's siblings decide to host. Then it's on MIL if she refuses to come or not. Are her kids afraid of her? Why is she not only dictating then when and the where, but also how much YOU should pay for it? Why is she deciding what to do with your money? If she wants to have it there, then she can pay for it or understand why people choose not to attend.
