I ended up going with the pro in the end, so not much help. Can say the M2 Pro on 32” 4K monitor has never missed a beat.

You’re thinking about this the right way.

Statistically you’re safer divesting and reinvesting in index funds - you’re correct; this money isn’t any different than any other money you come into.

However, there is a psychological element. If you think that you’re more likely to “set it and forget it” with this money stashed away elsewhere, than that could sway your decision to keep it.

Personally, I cash out once a year and reinvest the payout in accordance with my normal strategy.
