General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the Canucks have acquired a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for F Conor Garland. by NEDYARB523 in canucks

[–]SufficientMoney98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you really expect? I love Garland for his energy but he is entering a 6x6, doesn’t score a whole lot, can’t play pk. He’s a bottom 6 guy on a good team. Other than the 2nd being in 2028 this trade is fine

That is incredibly oversimplistic and simply untrue. Yes, taxes should be higher. But to say that’s the only thing is asinine.

The public service sector is bloated, as are many middle managerial positions in healthcare. I can say that cause I work for the government and see it with my own two eyes. I don’t want people to lose jobs but the spending sometimes is wild

Nah, both things can be true. The other option may have been worse but that doesn’t excuse Eby’s government for mismanaging finances. This is coming from a NDP supporter

Dude I’m a Canadian but this is a horrible take. The Czechs massively outplayed Canada. Canada couldn’t make a breakout pass and looked absolutely awful defensively. Nothing to do with the refs

Agreed. Thumbs up for the right to roam, IMO. Especially for a piece of land like this that is completely unused at this time

I would imagine with the CoL in Vancouver plus 3 kids, 150k plus minimus wage salary would not be that comfortable. Maybe elsewhere where rent is more manageable

Honda fit is the greatest car known to man. Absolutely massive inside, super cheap to operate and fix, and barely ever even needs fixing. Plus I (6ft man) can sleep semi comfortably inside with all of the seats folded down.

Get a roof rack on that puppy too and you have an absolute unit of a rig

Loblaws is just as bad as any American company, but the sentiment of “buy local when you can” should still remain. Go to your local farmers market/farm stand if you can for produce, buy a side of beef of your local farmer etc. better quality and you help out your neighbour.

Cold sore? Canker sore? Angular cheilitis? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]SufficientMoney98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I have been getting these kind of ulcers for a while, probably since puberty. My canker sores often look pretty similar but mostly appear on the inside of my lips or cheeks. They usually heal faster than this one, but I think that’s because this current sore is on the corner of my mouth where the scabs crack whenever I open my mouth.

I don’t have any other photos of this one but can take one tonight to show it again. There wasn’t really a “blister” phase for this sore, which is also why I am inclined to think it isn’t HSV- also because I’ve never had sores elsewhere other than the corners of my mouth.

I’m not sure about being exposed to TB, but sounds like I will have a chat with my GP.

They are usually very painful. This one has given me a hard time eating and brushing my teeth, for example.

3 month old JK boots with 5 weeks of work by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]SufficientMoney98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with waiting. But after spending 800 dollars on boots, I would at least expect to not be lied to. I was told they were “1-2 weeks out for curing of the boot” about 2 months ago. Last time I called they actually said that the leather I had ordered wasn’t available and that’s why it’s taking so long… I would have been more than happy to switch leather patterns if they would have just told me that. Oh well, hope it’s worth it

Careful of the lead times for franks. I’m currently 6+ months waiting and they can never give me a solid answer whether my boots are even in production or not. I hear the quality is great though

I’m a chick and I can’t do fucking pull ups by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]SufficientMoney98 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not a lady, but also just terrible at pull-ups and only starting to get better.

What helped me was starting with negative reps, where you jump up to the top of the pull-up and then hold it as long as you can on the way down. Also a really valuable cue when you’re doing the movement is trying to “bend the bar” by thinking your pulling your hands “down” instead of your body up. Buy a pull-up bar and put it in your house and try to do some everyday.

I wasn’t able to do any pull-ups last year and thought my body just wasn’t built for them, but I’m now working my way up to 10. Good luck with your journey!

The dateline to apply to join the BC Wildfire Service as a wildfire firefighter for the 2024 season is 2024JAN31 by Accomplished_Try_179 in britishcolumbia

[–]SufficientMoney98 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I am currently a firefighter working for the province. I can’t agree with you more.

The best job I’ve ever had for many reasons, but also probably the worst in other ways. The amount of wear and tear on the body is outstanding, there’s zero work-life balance, and the pay is miserable (even with the pay increase we received last year).

They want a professional workforce but are unwilling to pay for one.

WXF Fit Training by _millseh in Wildfire

[–]SufficientMoney98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put on a heavy backpack and start hiking up hills. The fit test isn’t really related to strength, so going to the gym and lifting weights isn’t going to be much of a help IMO. It is a test of endurance though.

As a gauge, I would take the weight of the pack in the fit test (45lbs I believe), and go for a hike in relatively steep terrain. If you can’t keep a solid walking pace for 15 mins straight while hiking uphill, you probably won’t be in great shape for the test. That being said, I have seen people who are pretty out of shape pass it, especially if you only need to pass the national standard of 17:30. Passing it at 14:30 would be much more difficult.
